You quite understand what you are looking for :D. Non-comedy is a bit hard, mayber a little comedy ?? :)

Yeah i suggest :

KareKano : http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?s ... me&aid=199 at first i think it is a pure comedy, but it is becoming very good.

Kimi ga nozomu eien : http://anidb.info/perl-bin/animedb.pl?s ... me&aid=896 it is similar to asian drama i think,

Those are 2 of best drama, romance animes (i think :D) Besides Ai yori Aoshi.

And some other animes : Honey and Clover, Canvas2, Kanon 2006, I"s

Millennium Actress perhaps? Although it may be more about longing than love.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm looking into a lot of stuff... (downloading KaneKaro since SO many ppl recommended it...)

So, is there not much in the way of more tragic love stories?

You want a sad ending? Try watching Pretear. Its decent, some parts are annoying, but other than that it is quite good

I'd double recomend both Karekano and Honey and clover. both have a slice of life feel to it, and while they do have comedic elements in them, they get serious when it needs to, and are about serious relationships. I nearly cried at the end of Honey and clover, not realy because it was a sad or happy ending, but just because it was so good of an ending. (it was both happy and sad I guess...) And not many anime do that to me.

Ichigo 100% was an excellent story as a MANGA. the anime leaves much to be desired, I wouldn't recomend it for what your asking for.

NANA may be just what your looking for also, but.... well I accidentally spoiled for myself that something tragic happens much later on, so it may endup with a tragic ending, I dunno on that. but its a realy long story with many things happening in both Nanas love lifes throughout. It is a serious love story thats actually quite down to earth, not like most anime. You find yourself relating to some of the characters because they are so realistic. Although it is a love story, it is also about the friendship that forms between the 2 Nanas because of their love lives. (even though its serious, there are comedic elements similar to Honey and clover, so you get a break from all the serious stuff every now and then ;p)

I haven't realized how hard it is to find a normal relationship in anime world until this thread. I mean, to try and think of an actual love story that 1) isn't amazingly unrealistic (Love Hina), 2) contains no pedophilia (Most CLAMP stuff), or 3) the people aren't freaking related ([somewhat] Fruits Basket).

X-day is pretty good. It's only a 2 book manga series but I liked it, and i'm pretty picky about my romances too.

What's more, it's near impossible to find one that takes itself very seriously. They're all comedies pretty much. And tragedies seem few and far between...

ahem NANA.... ;p (its not pedifilia (the people are in the 20s, except for one), its not incredibly unrealistic, and they are not related)

but actually, most Shoujo stuff would fit that bill more than the more Shonen stuff you listed off up there, maybe you should try some of those ;p

Such as Peach girl, Marmalade boy (oh yea I forgot about that classic, thats another good one, but not a tragic ending)

Any of Mitsuru Adachi's manga....(Directed more to febe since mentioned manga)
