Changin' video to movie type

Post by Loki_elric » Sun Dec 10, 2006 1:45 am

Hi!

I'm new here and also I'm new in this video things, I would like to know if someone could tell me how can I change a video (which is in video/audio type) to a movie (mpeg if I'm not wrong)?

Thanks in advance!

Are you saying you want to know how to convert an .AVI file (Audio-Video Interleave/Video for Windows; by default, Windows gives the file type as "Video Clip") into an .MPG file (MPEG-1/2; by default, Windows probably gives the file type as "Movie file (mpeg)")?

If that's what you're asking, then you can convert AVIs to MPEGs fairly easily with TMPGEnc, which is available here:

Sorry for the double post, but I forgot to finish the thought.

I wanted to say that your meaning wasn't entirely clear because, when you're talking about digital files, people pretty much use the words "video" and "movie" interchangeably... but video files come in many different formats, including MPEG-1/2, AVI, Real, OGM, Matroska, MP4, etc. By itself, "changing a video into a movie" doesn't make any sense.

Of course, the default file type descriptions that Windows uses for .AVI and .MPEG files really don't help -- they create the illusion of a distinction in terminology when there really isn't one. But then, if the OS called .AVI files "Audio-Video Interleave", the average user might have no idea what that meant.

Yeah, technically, they are all Video files (most with Audio).

MPEG = Moving Picture Experts Group

Acronyms and initialisms, you gotta love them.

I love/hate how WMV gets special treatment: Windows Media Audio/Video File. While MKV, MP4, 3GP, and MOV (unless I actually install QuickTime in which it's a QuickTime Movie) gets the generic "__ File". :|
