I don't know what LJ post you're talking about actually. I beta test if asked. If I'm not asked I don't beta test. No big deal either way. But no, I don't do ego boosting betas. Usually I actually try to point out things I think are problems. My comment was more on what the reaction I tend to get from people when I give them things I think need improved. A fair amount of people don't like that, they just wanted me to tell them how great they are. This is one of the primary reasons I no longer do honest and accurate ops/betas all that often anymore.
You're clearly not that petty
Actually I am that petty, it's just that boosting someone elses ego isn't something I'm known for so I don't give out that type of beta. I'm perfectly capable of boosting my own ego without other peoples assistance so I don't ask for that type of beta either.

I notice the same thing. When I beta for my friends, and I tell them what I think is problematic, needs to be fixed, or changed they just say something along the lines of "wellyeahmaybeidontreallyknow, i kinda like it that way(even for some things like sync, which aren't even a matter presonal opinion/taste)" etc, which leaves me wondering what's the point of asking people to betatest, if they already decided they like it the way it is and won't change it.

It's not just beta testing, it's with basically everything (be it amvs or writing or whatever). If your friends aren't giving you good feedback, stop going to them. Go to someone else.

And if you're beta testing for someone else, if they can't handle criticism, maybe ask them first what exactly they want out of you (and vice-versa, if you want something specific to be looked at, state it). It'd be good to know If they only want a general impression of the video, or an in-depth look at it (which they might not be prepared for or be able to accept).

kahahahahhahhaha i know for who you talk Cho khahahaha and yes there is no point of beta videos just because you want someone to lick your butt and say how great you are, beta testers kill that ****** amv makers

I remember beta testing for this one guy who asked me to be completely honest and as harsh as I can.

When I did, he cried like a baby and called me the worst person ever. :?

Keep in mind that just because you gave him a good an accurate beta opinion doesn't mean you aren't the worst person ever. It's entirely possible to give good betas and still be a bad man.

Well there is also a difference between technical stuff and conceptual stuff.
If a betatester points out mistake in technical part of the vid (sync off, some artifact, lip flap, orphan frame etc) then arguing is pointless indeed, since it's error from objective view.
But when he comment about conceputal stuff (f. e. "I think in the climax of your vid you should put the death scene of X instead of love scene of X and Y") then there is no ego boosting in refusal of this change. Afterall it is his subjective concept vs editors one...So it all depends then which option fits editors idea better , not about how big his ego is...

How does one go about finding beta testers?
Do they just PM them and hope they test it for them?
I know once your on here for a while and you know a few people it would be easy but i'm talking about all "the nobodies" out there like me who dont know anyone.

the easiest way is to be well known...
people will flock to you to beta your vids.

if that is proving a bit hard at the moment, you could ask for beta testers in the opinion exchange forum. in that case you should probably read the works in progress guidelines

depending on what anime/song you use, I could offer my services as a beta tester, all I need is a link to download your beta
