The Beautiful People of Black Lagoon (Massive 2.0 Upgrade)

Post by Jasta85 » Thu Dec 28, 2006 2:33 am

This is without a doubt a milestone in my AMV making career for several reasons.

1. This is the first amv that i have created with my newly aquiered Adobe Primiere Pro 2.0 (all my previous ones were made on windows movie maker)
2. This is the first time i have used Xvid Compression (hence better quality)
3. This is the first time i have had so much high quality footage at my disposal (both seasons of this series, although this series is still in the process of being released so some of the later eps are not full DVD quality)
4. This is the first amv i have made in which i have put so much effort, all together i estimate i put around 50-60 hours into this amv which honestly is probably almost as much as i put into all my other amvs put together. Granted that time includes the time it took me to learn how to use adobe primiere pro 2.0 and it's various uses as well as learning and using Xvid compression but even so this is my first major effort pushing project.

So this AMV is a LOT different from my past ones, at least to me

That said, here's the rundown on the AMV itself.

This amv is pure Action/Horror, It uses footage from the series "Black Lagoon" which is an increadibly awsome series with lots of wonderful scenes. This AMV is actually more of a trailer as i plan to make several other amvs using this series, and they will be concentrating on a number of characters that this AMV revolves around.

When i said Action/Horror i mean lots of both, there is plenty of guns, blades, blood and babes in this AMV (along with a chainsaw or two) so if you dont like that type of stuff you probably shouldnt watch it. All in all i'm really, really proud of it and plan to follow it up soon with other AMV's related to it that are even better.

So, enjoy, and have fun with The Beautiful People of Black Lagoon

P.S. I am very eager to get feedback on this amv, i'm not asking for opinions, just a brief comment here on what you liked or hated about it and maybe a sage word of advice on what i might have done better on it from all those people out there with experience with 2.0

Standout orphan frame at 00:41.

Right around 1:10 is flagrant lens flare abuse. You're using it to maintain tight synch because you don't have anything better.

For the love of Ghod, watch the lip flap. You really need to work on that in conjunction with your lip synch.

The theme is fairly well done, but the effects abuse is annoying, exasperating, and detracts from the entire thing. The lip flap is doubly annoying, especially since you actually try to lip synch from time to time.

well, thanks for your comments, the reason i stuffed a bunch of effects into this amv was for a couple reasons

1. I wanted to play around with them since this was the first chance i had to use them so i integrated a lot of effects into this amv, more than i probably should have
2. I had a number of complaints on my old amvs (wmm things) that they had no special effects and were therefore bad, so i tried to go for a change here.

Guess i have to find a happy medium, as for the lense flare abuse yes i admit i used that quite a lot as i really liked its effect when i first saw it, and i still dont know how to use a lot of the more subtle effects well so i was sticking to basic stuff

also, as people keep on telling me, read the guides lol, i didnt start seriously looking at them until i had already finished the amv and was trying to Xvid encode it and then i realized i could have made it a lot cleaner from the start if i had read them, i'll be sure to fix that on my next one

im no amv maker, just a watcher, so i dont know how good this amv is in terms of technical quality but personally i loved it, some parts were a bit too flashy but the atmosphere and mood was great and i loved the part with the skull's eyes light up as well as the last 30 seconds where that guy with the sword takes apart the other guy, this is definitly one of the best horror amvs ive seen, although i havnt seen too many of those i admit

this was a pretty nice horror flick, there were a few little glitches here and there but overall i thought it was pretty nice, would have been a good holloween amv, like the part with the car being blown down the road in synch to the beat

Aut just made me watch this, and I'll have to say this now: that was pretty f^ckin' good. Really suited the series, and the lipsync wasn't too bad, I wouldn't say it was perfect, but it was pretty good.
I like the lensflare effects you used- it's a very /different/ effect to do flashes and that scores points on originality for me- you didn't just flash, you flared, which is more than I can say for many other AMV where they rely on flashes that actually cause seizures and distract from the picture. I think you went a little overboard on it, but still, a decent effort. ^_^
OMG! Have to see the second series now!
Visual quality was a little sketchy, but since I know how new this series is... yah... can't be helped. ^^;
Good job! 10/10 lollipops!
