Converting with Virtual Dub Mod

Post by AMVGuy122558 » Wed Jan 03, 2007 1:50 pm

Ok I haven't done this in forever so I don't remember a thing. So can anyone tell how I would convert OGm, VOB, and Real Audio/Real Video files into AVI files with Virtual Dub. I have 1.7.0,1.5.1, and MPEG2 versions of Virtual Dub downloaded I don't think I need all of thembut o well.

For DVD .vob files you will need to decrypt them first with DVD Decryptor
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video ... rypter.cfm
Then convert them in virualdun Mod
http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/

OGM files should be able to convert in Virtualdub Mod too if they aren't H.264.
For H.264 OGM or MKV files you would need to import them using Avisynth or convert them with Graphedit.

These programs can convert Real Media files

Run virtualdub mod and open the vob file wherever it is on your hard drive

You will see a window that says its parsing the MPEG 2 file

After it opens go to "video" then select "compression" and select a codec like Huffy or Lagarith

Also go to "streams" and disable any audio streams in the file unless you want them encoded with the video.

You can use the buttons like shown below to select scenes you want to encode.
Once you select a scene go to "file" then save it as an avi.

OGM and MKV are done pretty much the same.

I don't recommend converting VOB's with VDM. If it's mixed NTSC and FILM, like many anime are, it causes a speed up of the FILM sequences. Use it only if it is pure NTSC or pure FILM or, of course, PAL. The way with DGIndex and AVISynth as suggested in EADFAG is the better.
