As for something rotting your brain, have you watched sitcoms, talk about brain dead entertainment (my bit of intolerance  ), give me anime any day over that.

You had to present a folio of 10 works of art, and apparently the judges were very unimpressed with anime, as in general it seemed simplistic, dull and namely not a good discriminator for hobby artists and those with great talent.

Just something i found interesting.
Well, her anime style must be lacking in terms of raw [holy fux0rs] detail factor...

Might I suggest some artists who can take 'anime art' and have people bow down in respect?

Satoshi Urushihara - hentai artist or not, you can hang some of his artworks in a museum and just get 0_0 from people... [yay naked art]

Mogudan Nihiyoki - note: disregard Rei doujins... lol, remember his character designs for Scrapped Princess? THOSE UNIFORMS GAH! That's what I call coolness in detail

Kazushi Hagiwara - Best selling artist in Jump! for uh, years?

If you look for obscenely serious beautifully done artsy anime, then you're going to have to leave the realm of low-budget hentai and Ranma 1/2 and DBZ and other mild-mannered, fun-fun anime and start moving into anime [or hentai] where they have a SERIOUS budget to burn and artists who make beauty stand out like a naked woman [sometimes they draw them, sometimes not]

But dare I say it, some of the BEST BEST BEST art designs you'll ever see may come from... [drumroll]

HENTAI!

Quote me on this: some hentai art is just poster worthy material [yep, the fully clothed characters from hgames count, they're all hanging on my walls]

Wordsworth [not the gaiden shit oavs]
Bible Black
D-Vin Luv

come to mind

Judges who haven't seen HIGH END anime art don't know what they're missing...

look up some high-budget h-games [well, some are h only in ending]

Kanon
Air

[very cutesy, but good God the detail they use]

h-games have an underrated look simply cause people think of them as porn and don't realize that ART can hide between the sex scenes...

No Comment. I think stupid is contagious. Though several of the comments are interesting to read. Half are from dedicated anime fans, messing up the petition. The system works!

You don't need to go staight to hentai. the first anime I saw was Ninja Scroll, after a few minutes I knew this was not kids stuff. Or show them Elfin Leid, a few minutes of that will get the "kids cartoons" idea out of their heads. If you want to pull a surprise hentai on someone, try Wet Summer Days. It's a fairly good series of stories with some hentai scenes. The storys could stand alone without the hentai. Or Mezzoforte, the uncut version. It's an pretty good action anime with some hentai scenes, like at the end of the first episode, that are really just tacked on to make it hentai.

It was so good (minus the hentai) that it got a series called DSM.

Some great action and fighting sequences in both.

I have the DSM series, it's pretty good. Actually the censored version of MEzzoforte is better than the uncut because the hentai seems so tacked on and unnessesary. Without the hentai it just has a bit of fanservice, nice violent action anime.

Kite is by the same writer and character designer, but if you take the hentai out you loose quite a bit of the story. I don't really recommend the edited version. It's not for kids, deals with child molesters.

Ah My Goddess: A sick and disgusting show which causes children under the age of 18 to think they are capable of love
Wait, what? How many American movies have side-stories involving minors and love? Many times the children in question are barely past puberty. Why don't we ban American movies too?

I'm generally of a 'live and let live' mindset with regards to liking anime or not, but when I run into generalisations like this I want to beat someone over the head with a clue bat. I wish that more people who aren't fans would realise that anime isn't really a genre, it's a medium. The art and storytelling style is different from American shows, and some people (read: us) prefer that style, but as far as actual subject matter goes the spectrum is just as broad as American productions, the genres are just split up differently.

I just had to add that there are probably no complaints about Romeo and Juliet from this person. What I mean is, Romeo and Juliet is practically about tweens and we teach it in school. It's often thought of as one on the most romantic stories ever, but it's about 13 year olds and practically condones their suicides (considering that the families only put aside their differences because of that). And yet, apparently, Ah My Goddess is sick? Compared to R & J, it's pretty tame. I just find it funny how people will say such things without really looking at parts of their own culture.
