First: I'm a newbie when it comes to video editing.
My friends recommended me Adobe Premiere so I decided to give it a try.
I have a few questions:
Which version.
There are many positive as well as negative comments on different version of this program. I'm a little bit confused on which version to purchase. Can someone lighten me about the differences between those versions in good details?
Install and Settings
Since I messed badly with the codec and compatibility while installing the trial version of pro 2.0. This time I want some experts to show me what to do to get the program up and running with maximum compatibility with the codecs on my system.
Books and tutorial
Can anyone recommend me a good set of book about Adobe premier Pro? I think I will want to have one show me how the program work and one focus on creating different kind of effects.
Thanks a lots! Let hope that you guy will see more of me here in the future!

I don't have any info comparing the three so I'll leave that for someone else, though I can be general.
I like 6.5 over the other two. It's simple to use and has just enough to get you going. As you get to 1.5 and 2.0, they start adding some bells and whistles that give you a little more control over your footage like easier keyframing motion and whatnot. In terms of ease to get... 6.5 is gonna be extremely hard since It's been discontinued for so long. You should be able to find used copies of 1.5 on places like E-bay. 2.0 is the current and easiest to get your hands on... but most expensive.
As for codecs.... the only ones you'll need are Lagarith and Huffyuv. Though it is recommended by a few that you should export uncompressed since compressing in premiere can lead to messed up encodes. I never had any trouble, but I guess the risk is there.
As for books... I learned 6.5 and 1.5 using the Adobe Classroom in a Book series. Cost about $40 American, but includes either a cd or a DVD-rom with projects and files which you use in conjunction with the tutorials given in the book. I still consult them since I don't have the manuals for both.

After some more research I've decided on purchasing a Adobe Production Premium Kit which includes Premiere Pro 2. I found a good deal here. The kit and one ADOBE PREMIERE PRO BIBLE included on a student price, lol.
So what left is the codec. I will install Lagarith and Huffyuv as recommendation. But what about the codec packs I already have on my PC like K-lite Mega Pack for the playback of movie and animes. Last time when I tried out of trial version of Premiere 2.0 they messed up badly. I couldn't encode or decode anything. Uninstalled the codec pack and reinstall the trial version did work. But then I couldn't play anything at all...
So what should I do? Is there any codec pack that can be recommended to me?
