kimi ga nozomu eien but depends...because there are 2 girls and one of them become the girlfriend of him and then she has an accident and she's in come for 3 yeras and in this time this guy is with the ohter girl...and when the 1 girl wakes up...he break up with the second...
but at the end of the anime the guy and the second girl bec. lovers again.
and yes....kannaduki no miko is the best ....

i'm not really in to hentai, what i meant was that a hero had to give up a relationship because of the difference of saveing the world or saving like the ending like El Hazard The Wanderers/ The Magnificent World

out of those the girl only dies in one, Mahoroba (the 2nd series), and that's in the 'fake' ending. In Air she dies... but I wouldn't consider it a romance. Hanbun No Tsuki and Shuffle she's gonna die, but it doesn't show it. The rest I hadn't seen or simply don't recall what happened... but... Love Love?? I don't recall... but is this even a romance?? lol.

If he's looking for a scene showing the girl getting torn away from her lover, I'd look to magical girl shows... like Ah My Goddess. She may not die, but, who's gonna know, it's an AMV ;p.
