I've been out of mainstream anime watching for about 4 years now. When i was a teen that and games were just about my life. Since i've been broke up to recently I've been out of the loop. I refuse to download anime and i most anime mags only cover the extremely new stuff. They don't really cover less recent stuff.

Lets see the popular stuff when i was into it was uh Eva, tenchi, ghost in the shell, lain, utena, and FLCL was just about to be released in states.

So heres the question. Post a list of animes that you've seen in the last few years that were grade A.

I can't believe tenchi isn't even on that list. Tenchis just about my most favorite anime of all time.

ooh, and #50 is good too

Haruhi and Death Note are liscenced, but not out yet.
Air probably won't ever make it to the US

and Fumoffu is on dvd now

It might be your favorite, but that doesn't mean it's everyone elses

The show itself is really only ok . . .

Not that I like Tenchi that much (I do LOVE the earth episodes, the space ones are just retards in space though...), but Haruhi is just simple storyline and fanservice.

But granted, you don't like downloading anime, but does that include fansubs? IE anime that's not been released here??

Anyway out of released on DVD stuff, I don't know if Azumanga Daioh is older than 4 yrs... it is kinda' pushin' it so maybe you heard of it... but you should check out Cromatie High School, it's like the male version of Azudai (if you like that kind of comedy).

Slightly less comedic (or rather, should I say, slightly more dramatic) is any one of the 3 Full Metal Panic series'. The first one is action/ comedy, the second one (Fumoffu!) is SO wacky it's almost unrelated, the third one is pretty much straight drama though. Together they combine to an ULTIMATE force though... BUNTA-KUN!! (there is no Bunta in TSR...)

If you like the pure brutal type I suggest Elfen Lied. Awesome series with severed heads, explodeing hearts and the like lol.

Also of 'note' is death note... I'd not seen it, but I know it's being released on dvd now and it's either like Elfen Lied or Gantz.

... oh, Gantz is a good one too, it's rather like EVA or Paranoia Agent.

You might consider GITS:SAC (Ghost in the Shell series') as well, or GITS 2 (they made another movie), but to tell you the truth, those things just fly over my head...

I'm glade i'm not the only one that thinks Tenchi is the root of all coolness.

The last movie i bought was GITS 2 at walmart. It was on sale

I thought the movies were the greatest things since the invention of toast. I couldn't bring myself to buy the series though. SAC just seemed like a crummy attempt to cash in on the awesomeness of the movies.

The reason i don't download the series, even the ones that haven't been release here yet, is because I enjoy them so much I want to express my satisfaction to the creators by buying the movies. Anime is just about the only thing i feel that way about.
