That actually happened back at AX 98-99 or something.

It wasn't anno, but another producer who saw it at the closing ceremonies who got really pissed off.

I think AMVs fall into the realm of fan works like doujinshi and fan-fiction, albeit only passingly, as derivative works. Since we use the original source (most of the time) and not fan-made animation, AMVs are on shakier ground.

I guess it's time to see if I've made it and had my AMVs uploaded there... yeah, right.

I've had countless cases of video theft! I've even had some of those people pose as me, deny the theft against undeniable evidence, and one guy even accused me of faking my own identity.

Honestly, my videos suck compared to a lot of the videos on this site! I think the only reason people steal the worse videos is because they think that since the people are less known, they'll actually get away with it. My advice to everyone is to constantly check the site for your work and make sure nobody is stealing credit.

fanfiction writers debate about coppywrite as well...

and most post disclaimers that they do not own the characters...

But there is not as much hoopla over Fan Fics as there are AMVs. I don't recall hearing of FF.net getting threatened because someone posted a story using a base the orginal creators didn't want. In fact... some just told the site that they do not want their stuff parodied. I don't see why that can't happen in the media department. If you don't want your stuff used, just tell us and we will not allow it, rather then threaten with lawsuits and other shit like that.

the tube and the org are two separate entities...
you gotta remember that the tube was getting sued over the ACTUAL videos being hosted there as well as the amvs, lipsync videos, and people uploading a blank video with just the song... (yes ive seen people do that)

and technically, we have yet to be threatened to be sued...
and as you said we had an artist (more like label) that said they didnt want their stuff to be used, and we blocked it..

Just out of curiousity what's worse people stealing credit for amvs or people using other amvs to make their own?
