DVD won't work... can't rip play the file

I am using DVD ripper wizard to rip my DVD but I can't play the file that it gives me... why?

it comes out as an avi file

I'm guessing that wither your comptuer can't handle that large of a video file or you don't have the required codec.

get gspot
drag and drop the .avi into the program and look in the upper right corner
look for the codec name and if you have it installed.

if you don't, then google the codec name it gives you
