Storing your masters
So I'm starting to run out of HD space. This is due to over 20 gigs of master copies of my AMVs that I don't delete in case I need them and just for records purposes. Thing is I need to get them off of there so I can keep making videos.
So how do you store your masters once you're done with them?
This is both a general question and a means to me find a solution to my dileema. I don't ant to use DVDs because they're too easily destroyed and spare hard drives don't work because the files don't transfer properly over to external hard drives for some reason.

What Bashar said.
Usually what I'll do when creating a vid is make sure my clips that I cut to edit with are minimal in size...getting only what I know I need to edit..that doesn't work all the time, but you get the idea. That way I can take the whole project folder and rar it into split archives to burn on DVD, in case I ever need the actual project files. Then I just export a lossless (huff or lagarith) to put on redundant DVD's.

I used to do cdrs with the files cut into rar chunks, then I got a dvd burner so I do dvdrs instead. I buy cdrs and dvdrs by the 100. In order for a dvd to get damaged, the entire roll of dvds would have to be crushed or opened up and slung around so the discs rub each other. I keep the rolls stored on a shelf. If you don't leave discs lying around without cases, it's not likely they'll be damaged. I have a roll of cdrs that's 5 yrs old - every disc in it looks brand new because, really, they just sit in the roll until I sort through looking for one. They don't even get dusty.
I have an external drive, too, but I don't like to store too much permanent stuff on there. There's the whole virus/worms can wipe a drive clean thing - they can't touch my dvd/cdr collection. I keep a couple of DvdRW's just for storying backups of everything 'permanent' on my comp. For vids, I usually stick huffyuv files on my external drive until I have about 30 gigs, then I'll transfer them to dvd. If you have trouble transferring files from one drive to another, try breaking them into rars first - it could be the size causing the problems. Both of my drives are supposed to support 5+gig files, but neither of them like to copy/paste files that big. I run them through winrar first.
