misfourtune raining on an amv creater D8 helppp!

Post by Can O Quince » Tue Feb 06, 2007 2:14 pm

OK! i'm very upset.
i've been here for a year or two now and been successfully uploading amvs onto the org, however, my internet explorer had been updated and apparently, theres a whole new way about things, especially uploading.

i entered a new video, filled in all of its information smoothly, and went to upload, i recieved my name and password and ftp. i get a white screen that says:

"FTP root at kero.animemusicvideos.org
To view this FTP site in Windows Explorer, click Page, and then click Open FTP Site in Windows Explorer."

i do as it says, imput the name and password (which i set to save as a password, which i dont think was smart...) and as soon as i try to copy my amv into the FTP folder, i get a message:

"An error occured copying a file to the FTP server. Make sure you have permissionn to put files on the server.
Details:
the operation timed out."

is ANYONE experiencing a problem like this? or knows how to get over it?
I have firefox, but i'm not familiar with an FTP folder in that browser..

any help is appreciated, and thank you for taking the time to hear my plead for help ;0;
(i DID browse through the problems in the forums, so if this problem has already been stated, then shame on me. if so, please point me in the right direction)

First : If you are using IE (Internet Explorer) then you don't have to use that kind of method. Just use the whole adress when entering ftp.

Example : ftp://user:password@kero.animemusicvideos.org/

that's simple,isn't it?

Second : If you receiving message that connection timed out, then reconnect to ftp.

Third : Try using ftp explorer program-that really helps.

Try downloading this one SmartFTP. I always use it when my IE does any funny stuff when i'm using ftp. It's not hard, you'll get to know how to use program in few minutes.

That's all , if you still can't do anything about it,then i don't know what to do.
:D I like laughter ;DD

if you have a firewall on, that can interfere with your connection to kero (and could cause the timeout error)

try turning any firewall(s) off and try again.

Hi Quince,

If you are having trouble with SmartFTP, try using Filezilla http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/ After you logged in, on the left hand side there is a list of all your files. Seek the file you want to upload, right-click, and press upload. Sometimes the program gives a timed-out error, but it usually continues to upload the file.

If you have problems logging in (that happens quite a lot to me) just cancel the upload by pressing confirm upload and because you haven't uploaded a file, you cancel the upload. And then just start again.

If want to protect your privacy (the password you saved) download a program called ccleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/ It will remove cookies and passwords and lot of other things.

Yes, just press download, then the first green button, and then press on the second file (the exe one). Don't think you have to set up a name. It is open source, so you don't have to register the program to my knowledge.

Sorry I could not answer, but we had to go out to check on the new house. But I am so glad FileZilla worked!
