x264 in Real?

Post by CrackTheSky » Thu Feb 08, 2007 6:33 pm

Is there any way to get x264-encoded files to play in Real Player? I HATE VLC, because the audio never really sounds right (it has to do with the equalizer, and since I know of no way to actually mess with VLC's equalizer, I have to deal with its crappy presets that don't help at all), and it's harder to deal with when writing ops because the seeking isn't really accurate or convenient.

I guess if there's no way to make x264 work with Real, could someone tell me how to make it work in WMP? I just really want to find an alternative to VLC...

Does this let me play videos in Real? Because I downloaded and installed it, and nothing's really any different, except now I have Zoomplayer.

I have no idea about realplayer, but it enables playback for any directshow based player.

After you installed it did you even attempt to play an x264 encoded video?

BTW the equalizer in VLC is accessed by going to "Settings -> Extended Gui"

Once you do that some tabs show up, one of them for the equalizer.

But the real question (no pun intended) here is....... why the hell are you using RealPlayer? o_o ... I mean, do you just really like the ads and media "management" (in major quotes)?... Just use Media Player Classic.

Yeah, I tried playing an x264 file in Real...all I got was audio.

As for why I use Real...I dunno, it's just what I've always used. I don't like for any of its other features, but when it comes to playing videos, the seeking is convenient, the sound quality seems to be better than at least VLC, and I don't think I have Media Player Classic :/ I'll check it out though.

I also used Real One Player for a long time and it didn´t worked either. Only the audio. I tried it also after updating the player, CCCP and stuff.

If you've installed CCCP (and/or ffdshow as a standalone and Haali Media Splitter), H.264 videos should play fine in Window Media Player.
