Tsubasa RC. It's like two seasons of 85% filler episodes. As much as I'd love to see some of the manga animated, I'd rather they just left it alone. No point sitting through 20 more episodes of 'feather of the week' just for one episode of actual story advancement. Not to mention that they worked so hard to make Fay not gay, he might as not be a main character.
Yeah, for you anime-only people, Fay and Kurogane are actually main characters in the manga. Check it out. There are actually entire chapters just about them!

I know that... And really, they're different enough that I can understand why. While I personally liked both, if you're a hardcore shoujo-drama fan in the vein of the original, with tastes that are more or less restricted to that, the slapstick aspect of the anime would be a turnoff.Otohiko wrote:Well then there's the obvious fact that the anime was basically cut off and canned before being properly finished (in part because the mangaka disliked the adaptation).
Though, speaking of which, I've never heard a logistical explanation of why the entire Saiyuki series was so bloated. Unless they saw an up-in-the-air ending coming from the start, since the manga was/is still ongoing, and decided to stuff it full of filler immediately. I wonder.
The whole thing is sort of a double-edged sword for the anime makers. They have to jump on hot properties, before the audience moves on - which usually means an unfinished manga series. So you can have a series with good plotting and pacing and a satisfying ending which nobody watches, or you can have filler arcs and Gainax endings that everyone watches. Of course, that's not ALWAYS the case, but it's not surprising that it happens so often.

OMG yes. The manga rocks, the anime bombs hard, and almost actively eliminates everything that made the manga cool.kikai_saigono wrote:Can't belirve no one mentioned Real Bout Highschool yet.......
sure the anime took place sometime after the manga...but it was still a waste of my money, and I loved the manga :/
Love Hina is another bad anime addaption of the manga. Especially if you go through the the english dub.

Well I don't think Love Hina was a good adaptation, though it wasn't a bad anime. That said, I entirely agree that the manga was much much better.
Oh, as for Kare Kano - I need to keep reminding myself to get the manga I rather enjoyed the slapstick aspect though; even if not true to the manga, I think there's a reason that I like it the most out of the Gainax anime...

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Chobits... the best thing about the anime was the opening theme. Of course, this happens continuously with CLAMP's stuff.
Tokyo Babylon. Manga was a good read with all kinds of twists and Subaru being put in all kinds of goofy positions. There were actual explanations for things.. unlike the animation. The anime fell incredibly short, I felt victimized--the way I do when Disney does something egregious like making another!! Cinderella movie. It was obviously made with the soul intent of making a buck.
Sailor Moon. I'm stunned that no one has said anything. The manga was so good, wallowing in equal parts slapstick, spoof and drama. [Fatty Mask ring a bell?] Granted, the animation didn't hit the chop-dub block until it was kiddie-ized for American TV, but even so, the author stated she knew the animators were making it more 'gender appealing'. It was like watching horrifyingly fascinating mutation.
Bleach. Girl walks into bookstore. Girl sees promising manga and buys it. Fast-forward 2 years. Girl watches first 2 episodes of animation, feels like hurling and promises to never watch said anime again. Girl continues to read manga, however.
Naruto. Yeah, what they said. I still read the manga from time to time.
The Fusigi Yuugi OVAS. These 'episodes' should come with complimentary mental floss. I will say, however, if I could have bought just the 'outtakes' and the bus trip parts, I would have.
YuYu Hakusho. On the whole, not bad.. but if I had to choke down much more filler during the Dark Tournament episodes, I would have ended up classified as an official pork product.
X:The Movie. One Word. Why??

Wow, if the "filler" in YYH bothers you, then how can you watch any anime? Filler in YYH was at max 5 minutes long. When you compare that to DBZ with whole Filler Sagas.Millenear wrote: YuYu Hakusho. The first episodes were decent, but as the series went on, it seemed that more narrative and vocal thoughts started crowding out a lot of the actual movement.
Likewise, I don't watch DBZ; I watched DragonBall years ago, but after a few episodes of DBZ, I concluded it was not for me.
I'm sorry, but I cannot see where it takes 3 to 4 episodes to kick Kuwabara's ass. It does not take over a full minute, plus narrative, for him to fall from a great height and say Ow. Add to that all the people & demons analyzing how his ass is being kicked. In my opinion, it didn't need to be that long.Wow, if the "filler" in YYH bothers you, then how can you watch any anime?
