an aspect of attachment... make it your own video... and have more of an emotional (thats not the right word... its really more than just that but i lack words) attachment... keep it from being just another amv... make the scenes have importance... assymilate into the borge... and you've got a great video
William Blake says "Babies are evil fiends hidden in clouds." Do you really want a baby hater to be in the chatholic church? Vote and excommunicate William Bake.
the confused have hearts too wonder where this came from.

Purpose
Not only does it need purpose, but every shot has to be purposeful. Like a good artist with brush strokes.

The greatest video ever.
Seriously, I wish people would try this atleast once.
Download a random video (any video will do... How about one of mine ; ) ?) and play any random song that you have laying around, at the same time.
Sometimes you get a really cool match.
Then you can mix the video and song together and have an amv you made!
Honestly though, sometimes with everything else you can (will, have to) do in life... making an AMV seems like it could be all just that easy.
If it doesnt SEEM like it comes that easy to you (and I know there are LOTS of you type), or you're not having fun with it... That's probably why you (and others) don't like the video.
So what it takes to make a great amv, is an editor who doesn't find it a trial to make something thats a hobby not a damn job.

No. While some matches I have found by accident during the editing process, this is not recommended as your entire editing style. In fact, I strongly recommend against it. Editing is a skilled process. One does not simply throw stuff together and hope it kinda sorta works.
No, I'm pretty sure some videos just suck.Honestly though, sometimes with everything else you can (will, have to) do in life... making an AMV seems like it could be all just that easy.

Some of us like taking our editing seriously. Once again, editing is a skilled process. Those skills can be applied elsewhere in the job market, not just in our "hobby." Some of us are broadcasters or aspiring broadcasters. The marketability of our skill set is an asset, not a liability. So what it takes to make a great amv, is an editor who doesn't find it a trial to make something thats a hobby not a damn job.

Flow/Sync... which comes mainly from how well the music and anime chosen works with each other with the concept in mind and how well the editor put them together.Jasta85 wrote:Ok, i'm honestly just curious as to what people think is the most important part of a good amv, or most important part(s) if you have more than one.
1. Concept
2. Song choice
3. Sync/Flow
4. Special effects
5. Anime used
Fail in one of those and AMV ends up average. Only unnecessary one in your list as itself is the special effects.. which though is part of editing process, which creates sync.

Good thing Sarcasm isn't a marketable skill...Kionon wrote:Some of us like taking our editing seriously. Once again, editing is a skilled process.
