I am asking all the animation geniuses out there for help. i tried to add a moving charachter to an amv i am working on and it isnt goin so well i had practiced with non moving people and it worked out ok . i am trying to add a moving charachter to a scene, note link below and pics of work area.
it came out so bad that i had to edit the majority of it in vegas to get out the places where it didnt look good at all.
i used all thi info from the guides and tried to mask(correct term?)
at every movement point i found using the page up and page down buttons also mannually.
i even split it (refer to pics) at every movement. i did everything they guides suggested and had them all open while performing the actions..
my question is, where did i go wrong and what if any steps did i miss?

Check your frame rates...if you take a clip of one frame rate and try and put it into another, you'll get a nasty ghosting effect.
Also, make sure your video is not interlaced and is progressive.
I'd recommend also doing your frames one at a time in photoshop and masking them out by hand...I know that's a ton of work, but it'll be more accurate (also you'll probably notice that the frames go a frame or two with no motion...so you'll only have movement every 2nd or every 3rd frame...with some source I'm working on and animating to now, I've noticed this pattern: 2, 1, 2, 3, 2, 1 or some variation depending on the scene.) That way you can shop a frame, and if you know the next one is the same, just save over that one too. Works great for short clips or clips with repetitive motion.
The other alternative to this is to create a mask in AE and animate that around your character by hand...you can also add points to the mask during the animation, which is a neat feature. Again, working forward in the timeline (make sure you don't have any keys set towards the end) you can match the frames that don't move by doing like so:
frame 1, set the mask and set a key for mask shape.
frame 2, oh, frame 2 is the same as frame 1. just set a key for mask shape (will be the same shape.)
frame 3, okay different frame, time to adjust the mask. set key for mask shape.
frame 4, oh, same as frame 3, just set a key.
and so forth and so on.
Hope this was helpful, good luck.
