AMVs brought up on ANN

The guy doesn't have anything good to say about them but it is interesting because it's in response to AMVs on the tube.
Thoughts?

that should probably say WMM, as most newbies either don't know what premiere is, or conclude that it's too difficult to use.Any kid with a bootleg copy of Adobe Premiere and a Linkin Park MP3 can slap together a Naruto music video out of the fansubs he downloads and the result is usually unwatchable.
an interesting read. and talking specifically about amvs on youtube, some of this stuff makes since.
i'd he just hasn't watched the right videos though.
doing you own story telling > relying on the source to tell the story for you + music

Actually he doesn't talk about the tube until his fourth paragraph, AFTER he's criticized AMVs in general. He's directly insulting us. And he has a valid point.
Half a second thought will pop up dozens of examples of this. Euphoria at first glance is nothing more than an effects video (yes yes, I know it is more than that but how many would catch that on first viewing?). Shounen Bushidou is a one trick pony as it The Race. Naruto's Technique Beat is nothing but mindless effects. Do It Right (Shake It!) is pretty much a gimmick vid. AMV hell is a gimmick. Toushi and Phenomenon are perfect examples of the how much honest-to-god creativity does it take question. In fact the entire hobby is devoted to distilling an entire anime series running main episodes into a 3 to 6 minute video. By it's very nature AMVs are prone to being gimmicks or rather obvious combinations of song and anime.I've seen my fair share of well-executed videos, but most of them don't have any value beyond a gimmick that you pick up on within the first few seconds. How much real honest-to-god creativity does it really take to make a connection between "Heaven is a Place on Earth" and Ah My Goddess?
Yeah, which one of us hasn't complained about that at one point or another. Hands up, how many here actually look forward to seeing yet another next Naruto/DBZ linkin park vid?For every one decent video there are thousands of terrible ones, which are almost uniformly angst-ridden emo rock set to fight scenes from shonen anime.
Pretty much what I've been saying for months now. Most editors suck donkey balls but this is a hobby and if they enjoy the taste of salty donkey cum then no harm done. But still, people have fun making them and watching them and the video editing experience they get from putting these things together may one day benefit them down the road. So while I question their legitimate creative merit, they're harmless.

You know all of those same complaints can be put to Movies T.V. Music. and just about anything else produced for mass consumption.godix wrote:Actually he doesn't talk about the tube until his fourth paragraph, AFTER he's criticized AMVs in general. How many "Fat Dumb Clumsy Father with a wife thats way too hot, and 2.3 kids - sit coms" can you think of? Medical dramas? OMG doctors are busy! They have sex with each other Drama ensues! Teen Dramas. Pretty Rich Wite kids with problems.
Movies. X + Explosions. Remake old movies. Brother father sister been killed need revenge. etc etc.
Music. Whine about girlfriend. Use the same 3 chords over and over.Hit Pop Punk / Emo band. Have a really hot chick as a singer, Focus group her lyrics down to meaninglessness, over produce her music so it's more the computer singing than her. Dress her up in Bikinnis and dance while wet. BAM hit pop.
I doubt any of this requires a great amount of creativity either.

Is this guy a columnist?
I hope for damn sure no one considers him a real journalist. He doesn't mention this site, he doesn't mention contests, he apparently hasn't spoken to any creators, and he completely ignores videos that contain original material, such as many of EK's works.
Someone needs to go back to Journalism 101.

Give me 5 minutes and I could find a rant about how TV is mindless pap, how rap is nothing but bitches and hos and gangsters, how hollywood produces total crap, etc. And for the most part those rants would be right. Just because AMVs aren't the only thing that don't often show creativity doesn't change the fact that they don't.Fall_Child42 wrote:You know all of those same complaints can be put to Movies T.V.
