Easy way to superimpose video

Post by Daniel_BMS » Sat Mar 24, 2007 5:12 am

Are there any quick and easy ways to combine 2 video files into one file. So for example a character from anime X can be put into anime Y?

It will depend on what video editing software you are using, and how seamless you want the 2 clips combined.

What's the easiest program that can make the super imposition effect at any quality level?

the short answer: it depends

the long answer: if you want it to look like a 'picture in picture' sort of deal, then yes, it is pretty easy. There are several ways to do this, depending on your software (might have to look this one up on your own).

if you want it to look like the character is actually a part of the other anime, then no, there is no quick and easy way to do this. This envolved a lot of effort on your part to mask / rotoscope / blue screen the original images (usually frame by frame) so that the two will look seamless. Mine you, this can be (very) time consuming.

So, if you want to do this type of effect, be prepared to do some work!

Could you post an example of what you mean by "superimpose"? Depending on your definition this could mean several different things (be more specific other than just "put 2 anime together")

Actually what I really meant was simply having 2 different video files playing at once and be able to write the performance into one video file.

Also if I find an anime scene with a single background color, is it possible to transform that color into a blank color like you can with .png's?

I'm sorry but I simply don't have any idea what youre talking about. "write the performance into one video file"? o_O

You're talking about keying or masking. Most modern video editing programs can do keying (it's where you specify a color and it makes it transparent. Like green screening in movies and tv shows). Masking is where you go through frame by frame and essentially "cut" the image out (using Photoshop or After Effects or what have you). Generally masking will always end up looking better than keying since even scenes with a single color background probably have that color somewhere else in the image (like if it's a white background, the character's eyes are also probably white, and it would cut that out too).

So, you mean, playing them side by side, or one on top of the other, or...?
