I've worked for a while in video and motion graphics, working on my first AMV now.

That mean I did it backwards?

I was an editor and writer for my high school's daily television broadcast back in the day. That was really simple final cut stuff, but I tried to have some fun with it I made the coolest intro for it evah with the skills I learned making AMVs. I also helped edit the 30 minute film they now show to all freshmen that go there every year.

I'd love to get into film and such, but I don't really want to whore myself out to make commercials (which I hate). I don't know what kind of opportunities are really out there for people who don't want to do commercials and news (I'm sure there are still many) but it's tough to want to pay for film schooling when the light at the end of the tunnel is so vague. So now I'm just doing Japanese. Maybe sometime I'll get into some Japanese company doing anime DVDs or something; that would be pretty groovy.

I made a live action music vid with The Last Samurai and since there was nowhere else to put it it's sitting on the tub of you. Most people who see it think I should make film trailers. I don't know how plentiful those jobs are though.

X2

That's what keeps me goin'. That's the only reason why I want a degree -- is to get that job.

I'm more of a short's guy so the 20 min 720p max shooting dosn't concern me. It's not like I'll do reportage's anyway :)

Final Cut.

Avid handles auxiliary timecode better than FCP, and has a few other nice logging things. Avid's multicam timeline is also more developed. Other than that, I find Avid extremely unintuitive. Since I've been forced to use various Avid systems, I'll rant about why I hate it.

- Clunky segment/overwrite modes for basic editing.
- Settings buried in fast menus.
- Nowhere near FCP's intuitive drag-and-drop timeline capabilities.
- Effect keyframing came in VERY late and is still lightyears behind FCP's interface. (i.e. do not try to create "Euphoria 3" in Avid unless you have a death wish).
- Try changing the layer order of multiple effects on a clip. Just try.
- No dynamic linking to source files.
- No equivalent to FCP nesting.
- Avid Xpress Pro: Who in the MEDIA industry chooses purple and gray as a default interface scheme?
- The downgrade hierarchy causes problems if you happen to be transferring between Avid systems. On the other hand, Final Cut is the same whether you're working with DV, HD, etc.
- NO XML WORKFLOWS!
- Do we really need twelve programs that are various crippleware versions of the same application?
- Media Composer is a pain. Not really integrated with motion graphics apps like FCP.
- Exporting to different programs just to use your edited movie. Quicktime-based FTW.

While the DVX100 is quite nice, I really want to shoot HD...and not buy the HVX's cards :/ (Although I've seen some footage from it and it's absolutely BEAUTIFUL) but, I think I found something better :O

Canon XH A1

Apparently this is one of Canon's slightly older cameras, but I saw some footage from it too and it's even better looking than the DVX IMO. ALSO...I noticed that a lot of people on the DVXUser forums were complaining about the price of the DVX since the HVX is now out (DVX around 3500$ and HVX around 5000$) and were saying that they'd expect to see a drop in the price to around 2000$...however, this Canon is about $3500 anyway, so my budget stays the same, I just trade cameras and get HD in return. Someone needs to slap me before I apply for a credit card just to get this. :/

1440x1080 is not 1920x1080 Chris... Thou aside from that if you can correct me on that error it seems pretty nifty indeed. Aside from that... Skypu?
