...and why is that a bad thing?
cartoon network (primarily [Adult Swim]) got me into anime in the first place.
Half of my top 10 anime have been shown on cartoon network (4 on [Adult Swim] and G Gundam was shown on toonami a few years ago when toonami was on from about 5pm-8pm)
They aren't the best at aquiring anime that would draw more attention...but as it stands, they do alright (considering the low number of fans when compared to more mainstream american entertainment like Family Guy)
[Adult Swim] is shooting themselves in the foot with stuff like Saul of the mole men, and all the other $^!& that they come up with, and I don't imagine that that helps the anime fanbase to expand...but they can show series unedited (or less edited), like Eureka 7 and GiTS SAC (both seasons)

What the Doc said.
They could probably do some good and draw in a different crowd if they added some comedy or even some drama to there line up that just happens to carry some entertaining action, or at least show some more movies once in a while.

The last time I watched CN was when they had Sailor Moon and Robotech back-to-back...

I'm sure the fact that they've got a bit of competition now in the form of The Anime Network (ADV) and The Funimation Channel (um, Funimation), the pickings are slimmer for good, wide appeal shows to air. Of course, it would help if they did promos for the shows that they do have, like Eureka 7, Blood+, Bleach, and whatnot. I saw very little advertising for Trinity Blood when it aired, and nothing for Blood+ which took its place.
While low budget live action (-based*) crap like Saul of the Molemen, *Tom Goes to the Mayor, and Tim & Eric Awesome Show get constant attention. And it's the same idiots doing those shows, I swear. They all look like the same people and sound like the same voice actors that do Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Perfect Hair Forever, and Stroker & Hoop.
Their comedy shows usually get better ratings than their action lineup. But the humor in Futurama and to a lesser extent, Family Guy, is much, much better than their in-house (Williams Street) stuff. Adult Swim is slowly killing itself. How I miss the classic Looney Tunes rerun shows that used to air after Adult Swim. Especially the stuff on the "Bob Clampett Show", "Tex Avery Show", and "Toonheads".

I didn't start out on [Adult Swim]. I mean, Blood+ and Trinity Blood were an awesome call by them, and expecially FLCL.
But I started out with vhs of Junlge Emporer Leo.....>_>
