What's your style of AMV Making?

Post by RIPmyprsoul » Sat Apr 07, 2007 6:17 pm

This topic is for talking about your "style."... Okay, when I talk about style, I mean:

What do you follow in the song that you follow in the video?

Do you follow the lyrics more than the beats and instruments?

Do you tend to follow the beat (1,2,3,4...1,2,3,4...)?

Do you look for other things that may be useful in syncing? Other?

Do you add voice-overs just to make it special/sentimental?

Do you look for real music videos by the artists for inspiration?

I tend to follow the beat in a lot of songs, but I also like to follow the instrumentals in the song. Lyrics are pretty hard to sync because of the anime I work with (Final Fantasy).

Anybody want to share?

i wanna say i follow the vocalist... most of what i sync is to the sound of the person's voice... (as in how the voice is used, not necessairly the lyrics all the time, though i do try to mood/lyric sync alot more so mood sync though)

ive been working more on syncing to the music though

What i prefer in AMV and what i try to follow in my own work is to convey the general feeling i had for a particular series so its anime first music second for me. This is also why i will do action synch rather then lyrical synch. I also believe beat synch is important but since i'm only a begginer i need a lot of work in that field.

Ya know, you can just watch the fucking AMVs and pick up the style. If the persons style is so sloppy and weak that you can't tell what it is then does any amount of explanation help?

What do you follow in the song that you follow in the video?
It depends. If I'm doing one of my Azumanga Q videos, I listen to the lyrics and the tone when the characters are speaking so I can give a proper facial expression.

For my other videos which haven't come into fruition or development(which are a bunch), I listen to beat and lyrics depending on the song.

Do you look for real music videos by the artists for inspiration?

Yes, mainly for structure and that's it.

That dependsbut really I tend to choose the music second so its the other way round. But the mood of a scene and the music seems very important to me.

Do you tend to follow the beat (1,2,3,4...1,2,3,4...)?

I do, but I like to look for the more complicated rythms than just the plain bars, though I will, in a slow moment, often follow a four beat bar for a little while. so long as the video fits the mood or there's something interesting to see.

Do you add voice-overs just to make it special/sentimental?

Haven't done yet but I would like to sometime. Im thinking on an idea for a GunGrave vid that I'd like to bring some of this in. I guess I just haven't seen a good opportunity yet :)

Do you look for real music videos by the artists for inspiration?

Never. In fact I often hold myself from watching any other AMV's with the same song because I'm afraid of copying lol - I do a rough draft first then I go find as many as I can for ideas and to see if something I've done is done very often (which I then rush to edit out as soon as i can and find something bit more original).
