Still Clips, Adding Text to Video

Post by Drake264 » Wed Apr 18, 2007 12:27 pm

Alright, so I'm workin on my new video and I have two questions. In a bunch of videos I saw people freeze clips. Where for a minute they would just be still. Not sure if they were using screenshots from the anime or using a program. I was wondering if Vegash ad the poetental to do such a thing. If so could someone help me figure out how to do it Also I wanted to do a video opening and use text in the video. I'd also like to know if someone should help me in that respect as well.

For the still image, all you have to do is take a screenshot, paste it into your favorite image editing program, and import that image file. Take the screenshot by changing the tab above your preview window to "Preview (Full)" and then press the second button from the right to take copy the screenshot to your clipboard.

For the text, right-click on the video track and select "Insert Text Media..."

Thanks for the first part. The Second though. I'm not looking for just text. I mean text inside of a video. That Video Jihaku, the last video of the year, and countless other AMVS have clip openings with text in the video. I know how to do text on it's own.

...I don't think I understand what you mean by "text inside of a video". What's the difference from what I told you?

Well form using Vegas, when you insert text media, you get a black screen that you can write text on. I'm talking about adding text into a video clip. Not just onto a black backround.

Make a video layer above your primary video track and add the text media there.

And the text will just show up against the video? I'll give it a try, thanks for the help.

Yea, just put the clip on a video track above your video you want the text to be on, and if you want to get spiffy with it, remember to click around on all the tabs to add 'shadows' and different colors, and things.

for the first part, in Vegas i just cut the clip down to one frame, right click on it and select create subclip then i can make that one frame as long as i want

and yea, layers are your friends, you can put text on top of other video below others and whatnot...

Yeah via playing around with it I kinda figured out what you guys were talkin about with the text. I'll keep the frame by frame in mind. This is definately going to be my best vid yet. Man, I already have like 8 layers and I'm not even 30 seconds in.
