I cant pinpoint this error
Hi everyone,
Ive been having trouble with Avisynth and VirtualDub for a few months now and was wondering if anyone has experienced similar errors and how they fixed them.
I am trying to load avisynth scripts into virtualdub so that I can encode them for editing, but i get nothing but errors. Ive tried on and off the past few months and for HOURS at a time - probably over 30hrs just mucking around trying to get it to work, especially the past few weeks and now Im beat. Im so frustrated and annoyed as to how long its taking me because its given me so much time Ive pretty much got the whole story board sorted out, I just cant MAKE the damn thing.
The DVDs are Azumanga Diaoh. I have tried the AMVapp latest version multiple times with fresh d/l and installs. The script is not complex, just
Loadplugin("C:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5\plugins\MPEG2Dec3.dll")
MPEG2Source("D:\A1\A1.d2v")
or
MPEG2Source("D:\A1\A1.d2v")
and I recieve errors of "mpeg2source couldn't open file...." As you can see Ive made the pathways simple as possible to avoid address errors, ive checked it thousands of times.
I have also tried uninstalling AMVapp and D/Ling the latest of DGindex, VD, VDMod, and Avisynth and installed them multiple times and instead get the error of "Virtual Dub has encountered an error and will be shut down". The vista friendly version of 1.7 says "out of bounds Memory error". This is really tough because I cant pinpoint the error, the script is simple.
Like I said, Ive tried AMVapp and the latest software. Its really frustrating because Ive been ready to start this project for over 5 months now, any help would be greatly welcomed and appreciated. Thanks so much for any ideas or help, you guys have a great community here, I hope I can contribute to it.
If its important:
My computer is running Vista (32bit)
2.4Ghz Conroe
2G 800Mhz DDR2 RAM
74G 10000 rpm Raptor HD
300G Seagate 7200rpm HD
ASUS P5B MBoard
7950GX2 vid card

Vista may be the problem, but you have to ensure that the versions of DGIndex that did create the .dv2 and DGDecode.dll match. Or in case you use MPEG2Dec3.dll for decoding the .dv2, it has to be created with the matching version of DVD2Avi. And make sure that you don't move the files (.vob and .dv2) after creating the .dv2.

Thanks guys for the fast replies,
The scripts are in the same folder as the d2v and vob files, and I havent moved them since creation.
I hope vista isnt the problem. Itd be a tough one to fix
Hellfire: I havent tried DVD2AVI yet - only DGDecode (and not too many differing versions of it either, just the amvapp and latest ones), when I get home I will try DVD2AVI with different MPEG2Dec files to see if this helps.
Thanks again for the help guys and in advance for any other ideas.

Only certain versions will work:*Atlas* wrote:Hellfire: I havent tried DVD2AVI yet - only DGDecode (and not too many differing versions of it either, just the amvapp and latest ones), when I get home I will try DVD2AVI with different MPEG2Dec files to see if this helps.
If you are using <B>DVD2AVI 1.76</b> for your D2V files, your MPEG-2 decoder plugin should be <b>MPEG2Dec3.dll</b> or <b>MPEG2Dec3DG.dll</b>.
If you are using <b>DGIndex</b> for your D2V files, your MPEG-2 decoder plugin should be whichever version of <b>DGDecode.dll</b> came with your version of DGIndex.

HI everyone, just had a chance to test some ideas then. I couldnt find DVD2AVI 1.76, but found 1.77 and d/l'ed it. Worked first go
couldnt believe it. The plugins which were in the avisynth folder the whole time were the MPEG2Dec3 plugins, even when DGIndex was installed, so that must have been the issue the entire time. I never tried DVD2AVI because I thought it was outdated to DGIndex.
Thanks a million guys, especially you Scintilla and Hellfire, you wouldnt believe how long Ive been trying through fresh installations and script changes and directory changes to get this to work. Id get so pissed at it that Id leave after a few hours of trying and go through the whole process again from the top a week later, reading guides and watching tutorials but getting the same result.
Thanks again guys, Im chuffed now. I wish I asked advice earlier if it was going to be this helpful.
