The eye and nose question was simply a sarcastic remark at what "makes" anime, anime...in a sense. Butterflies may or may not be "trademark" of anime.

the STD one was....something.

Nah, it's more a tradition borrowed from western animation.

Tezuka, for example, grew up drawing the western cartoons of the 30s, 40s and 50s. Betty Boop and Mickey Mouse have pretty big eyes, as you can see:

So yeah, the style was borrowed from the west and developed from there.

I've seen those butterflies before in the new Bebop movie...Or whenever I get high.
Total slaughter... Total slaughter... I won't leave a single man alive. La de da di die. Genocide. La de da di dud. An ocean of blood. Let's begin the killing time.

Yea, you're right on that AD.

but don't you think that's the reason Western animation did that in the first place?

I tell ye, good old uncle Walt was no foo... Quite certainly, that's the reason he gave his characters big eyes. I'm aware anime did not invent this, but it developed the concept to some great extent...
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…
