Being a Canadian creator (and also not having ANY cons in the area) I think that this is a great idea. There are almost limitless things that could be done.

Think about it, I can't exactly remember who said this but what about Iron Chef like AMV contests? Creators bring in their hardware. All get the same footage, music and such and are given an hour or so to work. While not alot would get done, I'm still very certain that the end result would be interesting.

And jeez, just socializing with people would be a blast. Since we are a community having meetings like this would make us come together even more. I'm all for this and willing to help in any way I can.

This definetly sounds like an interesting idea but I would be concerned about piggy backing another con. Even if we held events a few days before or after the con it will still hurt our attendance and that con's attendance. A lot of people can do Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon but I bet most can't do Wednesday to Sunday and given that a lot of people who work and everyone one in school gets the weekends off then doing a Friday to Sunday event would probably work out better. I really don't see a need to piggy back. Small, startup cons need to entice local people to come in so they can grow enough to entice regionally and then nationally. Because we already have an organized structure to work within (this site, the AMV mail list, etc) we know that we'll have to do a national con to start with.

I agree we should look at spring or summer for the when. Spring will be harder to pull off since spring break ranges from mid March to late April so I personally say aim for early summer and try to avoid any major anime cons by at least two weeks.

Assuming we don't piggy back I think the where would be best answer by who's willing to work on this. I know I would have no problem helping out but since I don't see this being held in Atlanta my assistance would have to be remote. We'll need at least a few trusted individuals to make the large arrangments such as setting up facilities and bringing in the equipment. Things like registration, event planning and scheduleing, and AMV contests can be done remotely if we send partisipants to the right person. So what we need to determine is if we have anyone in a good location (major east/west coast city) who would have some experience and a lot of desire to work on this idea.

I am also all for it ^^

My life revolves around editing...and well..DDR ^^; But I'm working towards a career in the video editing area so I'm more then willing to get this off the ground.

I am also a Canadian editor. ^^

As for the place, that would be a tough one, but if we have the support behind this we can do it.

Various contests, get togethers, dinners, showcases, hardware, software, demonstrations, panels, a bunch of editors and most of all a FRIENDLY atmosphere!

I also find that at cons I'm there mostly for Cosplay, AMV's, meeting people and cosplay contets. Watching anime doesn't interest me much because I have practly everything the places show, unless it's unreleased...

So an all AMV con would be great. ^^

Not to sound too much like a troll, but...

Isn't this AWA anyways? It's not like AWA is known for its guests (perusing fansview I didn't see an overt link to anything J-GOH related) and it sure as hell isn't friendly to the cosplay...it just seems to be the big AMV con to begin with. Why not go all the way and kill everything else from the convention?

The side-note is that for fans in the DC area, AnimeUSA this year is shaping up to be a big AMV party too. Hope it's fun and friendly like it has been the last two years...

From what I know, the video Arts Track is still a small part of AWA. It's only one room and it's limited to how much can be done there. The convention is much bigger than that....

I am more thinking on the line of many rooms and events at the same time without having to be restricted by what the rest of the con gives you in space and time. Everything I've seen so far is alway relays on what the con commitee give it...

IT would be nice but oh God the funding would be horrible. If we can get it organized and funded then I am all for it, but we would have to have more than just amvs to be a succesfull con. All cons, as you know, need a dealer room.

Keep in mind this is would not be a traditional con with the huge costs and all the activities, so a dealer room would not be required since all the events would be around AMVs, etc....This would be more like a massive gathering with tons of events and workshops for the purpose of having fun, meeting everyone, exchanging stories and learning stuff about AMVs from each other and the Pros.....

If I understand correctly, this is not (being designed as) a typical anime convention Vlad is thinking up. It seems more like...a glorified AMV party :) So, you wouldn't need guests, dealer rooms, general stuff.

That's why I think having it around a big convention (not ON or AT the same time/place) would be good. You wouldn't be drawing away any attendees at all. At least not in the first couple meets. It just wouldn't be feasible to say, 50 amv makers travel 200 + miles to a one day event in it's infancy. Unless there is a flood of support beforehand it would be easier on those of us with strained budgets to put it near something we were going to anyway.

And it would be it's own event entirely.

I think this would kind of be an AMV "club" type meet more than a convention. But open to anyone...is this kind of what you had in mind Vlad?

Yes, kind of. Look at it this way, stamp collectors have a huge get together in a "convention" like environment annualy. This is the concept here. This would not be a anime Convention, but I think AMV artists and even fans of AMVs would get lots our of it since there would be a lot of things going on than just watching videos and contests. We're talking AMV dances, panels, workshops, AMV gameshows, contests socials, etc.

I think if it is planned right, I figure it could get about 500 - 1000 people together.Yes lots of good planning and events that would draw people would be very important. At this point, this is only an idea and required some initail dicussions and a "show" of hand on how many creators are actually intertested.....

I'm all for it ^^ AMV gatherings are the best ^^

I think a 1 or 2 day event would be nice ^^ Like maybe Saturday and Sunday?

We'd need a projector ^^ A major thing ^^ Maybe a computer or two ^^

CD exchange is a must ^^

I'm assuming this would be in a hotel, but where? I know some people are from out of country (Canada, Europe) so it'd have to be somewhere everyone can get to (maybe..Denver?) without lightening our wallets ^^;;
