I guess I could stand up for Tenchi In Tokyo like I usually do... I mean, I think it stands as a decent little story if you take it in its own right. A lot of stuff is going to pale in comparison to the OVA (which is also my favorite, fyi), the other Tenchi series not included, but I still think it's funny and cute and really works at playing on the emotions of the viewer. As long as you're not concerned about the seizures of rage and enmity Masaki Kajishima must have every time he sees the show on television, it's a decent quality show.

I can't even see it as a quality show. It was horribly cheap, i hated the new character designs, the style was both annoying and distracting, and the story itself went on way too long. they could have coverd the a weak plot like that in about 5 episodes.Unpronounceable_Symbol wrote:I guess I could stand up for Tenchi In Tokyo like I usually do... Quite true but then again TV is controled buy people that think cartoons are for kids. Thats why when they played a few of the OVA's on Cartoon Network they drew-in bathing suits, changed the dialog, and made the blood in Sasami's dreams purple.AmazonMandy wrote:UGH TV tenchi...go buy it...it really is worth it. Right here. I admire the series.
I also speak for KiyoNagi, who hasn't been here in months, but he, too, is a big fan.
Both his and my favorite character is Ryoko.

The Tenchi OAV series is really great, I especially loved the unique look of the ships in this show. While I don't find that the plot is too deep, it's still enjoyable none the less. The Universe was good, but just didn't have the same feel of the OAV, some of the episodes were total filler. Gato isn't as cool here as his OAV version. However, the alternate dimension episodes are still some of my favorites. T. in T. was okay, not great, but not horrible either. It's a series I hate and love at the same time.
The movies were pretty good as well. Tenchi Muyo: In Love was awesome. Great music, great plot. Couldn't be better. Daughter of Darkness had a good plot, but it's my least favorite because the entire film is a rush job. If it had 30 or 40 more minutes added on, they could have stretched out the story to a more fitting pace. Tenchi Muyo: In Love 2 was different, since it was more dramatic, but my favorite of the three.
Haven't seen any of Tenchi Muyo: GXP yet. Not sure if I want to commit myself to a spin-off series, but Shinichi Watanabe (NABESHIN!) directed it so I might give it a chance someday.

Hee-hee-hee. I pity the 8 billion of you who don't have International Channel. The five or six of us on this site who do, got to see our Tenchi Muyo in its entirety, un-cut. That’s right I said UN-CUT and ON T.V. (ends my little moment of pride).cholinms wrote:Quite true but then again TV is controled buy people that think cartoons are for kids.
