Just a hint. The Emoticons on your left are there to let people understnad the tone of what you say. However, if you wish to post ambiguously so that you may backtrack when confronted, make sure you tell the emoticons your sorry. They have feelings too

And if you girls want to get your wank, be in a look out for Sensual Pornograph. I heard that one of the episodes includes a bishie who's all naked and chained. And there's another episode where these two male manga artists start getting their wack off with each other. To me, that makes no sense because one of the male manga draws yuri. WTF?!!!
Fate had it that SP was the first yaoi show that I ever seen. I must say that everything that you just said happens within the show. I am actually surprized when I heard it might be coming out. From what I hear about other yaoi titles this is the most graphic. Out of both episodes the artist one had more of a storyline and didn't seem like a pointless whack fest. To scare the fanboys a little bit the chained guy has been described as a male version from Rei on Eva. I did find that funny.

As far as your comment on gay males drawing yuri I would think that he would be able to understand. That guy plays the femine roll in the relationship and thus has some insight on the needs of women. I think he would have the ability to take that insight and transfer it to his yuri. Honestly I think if he was sensitive or perspective enough he would be able to accomplish this task whether he was gay or not.

That is all from my attempt at an intellectual conversation about yaoi.

Yes fan-girls are rather annoying. I think the list of evil fangirls is bigger than the list of wanted:presents santa gets every year.

I've never understood why it is in yaoi (in particular the yaoi aimed at women) the men.....don't look like men, but rather like women who've just underwent a sexchange and haven't been taking their hormones. And then there's this whole "bishonen" thing. o_O

I'm not being judgmental or anything...I'd just honestly like someone to explain it to me.

Yes, most are... :?

But...

It isn't in every yaoi that one or both parties are like women.
If you go through the thousands of yaoi, there are many who aren't like that.

I think it's rather attractive when "some" men are, like bishounen.

Meh, it's just a milder form of the dickgirl fetish that some men seem to have, too. There IS a reason Yaoi is generally classified as a genre of shoujo anime/manga - that is, it's aimed primarily at women rather than actual homosexuals. There's obviously a bit of implication and projection going on that's beyond just basic man-on-man action...

And uh... is there something wrong with me if, despite being a perfectly straight man, I find some sympathy towards bishounen character designs?

It's very common in yaoi and shounen-ai anime to have assigned roles to the characters. Usually in sexual scenes, there's an uke and seme, translating to top and bottom in "sex talk". The general depiction of the uke is a strong, masculine man, sometimes not even gay, where-as the seme is shown as a very feminine looking male, usually insecure or having a "first-time". I think that it's possible that these roles are assigned in order to heterosexuals to understand the sex between the two. Usually in hentai anime, the man is of course dominant to the woman. These image is mirrored in yaoi, with the "man" being dominant to the, well, man.

However, it tends to be relayed in pop-culture of the term "versitile", which refers to a male who can play both part, the uke and the seme. I don't believe I've seen this is in a yaoi anime yet, but with homosexuality still being a touchy issue in Japan (IIRC, correct me if I'm wrong), then I can understand why directors want to make the anime have assigned roles to the characters, man being dominant of woman (I don't agree with it though. Go feminism.) So, the similar theme is indeed carried into the yaoi world, of one person being in control of the other.

Any other theories on this? I think Otohiko also brought up several good points.
