Ah, Spike reminded me of two, and I got a few more:
Oasis - Acquiesce. GREAT song about friendship.
Oasis - Talk Tonight. Not sure what it's specifically about, but it's got some great lyrics. Nice mellow mood.
Aesop Rock - "No Regrets". One of the very small number of rap songs I like, by the only rap artist I liked enough to spend money on. It's about a girl who, throughout her life, communicates solely through her artwork, and it concludes with an inspiring moral.
Billy Joel - "It's Still Rock & Roll To Me". Cool song about the value of *not* keeping with the times. At least that's what I take it to mean.
Des'ree - "Crazy Maze". Probably my favorite female singer of all time. This one's about struggling through the hardships of life knowing that "light's at the end of the tunnel", though "the journey may be long".

I understand what you mean. I've heard a lot of "powerful" music, but to answer your question I would have to say that it is the "EPIC" song that really touches my heart and soul. Characteristically longer than 8 minutes in length, these (usually) progressive/power metal songs are exceptionally orchestrated. The few I can name right now are:
Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera
Symphony X - The Odyssey
Nightwish - Beauty of the Beast
And from what I've heard - Stratovarius' new album - Elements, Part I will have 5 epic songs. Damn! I can't wait to hear that!

*sighs*
Ok, if you want some powerful music, especially powerful rock, listen close. The entire Source Tags and Codes album by And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of The Dead... is very powerful, but if you want a taste, the first two songs, "It Was There That I Saw You," and "Another Morning Stoner" are amazing. Please download them. I would not lead you astray.

Hmmm... what touches me is usually quiet, not powerful, but let's see if anything falls under "powerful"...
U2 - Where the Streets Have No Name (they have a lot of other big inspirational type songs, as well...)
Enigma - Gravity of Love (good choice)
Blue Oyster Cult - Don't Fear the Reaper (don't ask why; I don't know)
*this is where I start going through my playlist backwards*
When In Rome - The Promise
The Smiths - How Soon Is Now?; Shoplifters of the World Unite
The Police - Synchronicity I & II
Pink Floyd - Coming Back to Life; Learning to Fly
Pet Shop Boys - It's a Sin
Live - Lakini's Juice (not one of my absolute faves, but it's got an epic sort of sound to it)
Fleetwood Mac - The Chain
Simon & Garfunkel - The Boxer; America
Alice in Chains - I Stay Away
And Still Fighting It used to be, but unfortunately that DBZ video sort of ruined it for me for a while. I'm sure I'll recover eventually.
Most of the songs that touch me, as mentioned, are something quieter, but those are a few...

Dude, why does everyone hate this video?! Personally, I loved it. So what if it's DBZ?! Not every Dragonball Z video it a piece of shit. I thought the idea was quite original, and deserving of praise.SarahtheBoring wrote:And Still Fighting It used to be, but unfortunately that DBZ video sort of ruined it for me for a while.
