Thanks for being another voice of practicality and thanks for enlightening me on the purpose of the transformers, the show is still too childish for my blood but the explanation you gave made the show more acceptable

worship
that anime, to an unhealthy level. i am in it so bad i know the serial numbers of all the marionettes ^_^;;;;;

oh well, i belive yeah, golden boy was a great start, but akira really was like throwing gas on the fire, boom, attention world, this is anime!

Wait, are you inferring that Golden Boy was popular? Or was that your personal experience? Because most fans of Japanese animation in Japan probablly don't know what Golden Boy was. Personally I like his other work better, a little series called Cowboy Bebop.

Cowboy bebop is great, but it's not that old.

Um, I don't recall saying it was old. I was comparing Shoji's two series', Golden Boy and Cowboy Bebop. And I like CB significantly more than GB.

Most Large Mech's I've seen whether in Anime or hell even Battletech, are built for space warfare or warfare in barren environments. There's no where to hide in space to begin with except behind moons and planets and such. Atmosphere is less likely to be a concern as well, so profile is not all that relavent in such situations, adaptability is more likely to keep you alive.
axron27 wrote:The transformers are even more absurd because what would be the merit of a 22nd or 23rd century fighting machine turning into a 20th century firetruck? those factors are impossible to ignore.
Mroni is correct in that the guise of 20th century vehicles was more camoflage for the Transformers than anything.
axron27 wrote:That's as bad as the Starships on Star Trek powering all of their main systems from one source -hmm lower my defenses for a bit more speed? very dumb-
Agreed, no backups, or anything, the whole ship is powered by one glass bauble containing a handful of dilithium crystals.
axron27 wrote:Sci-Fi writers are hopeless romantics who are usually detached from scientific and physical reality -light sabers? swords are already obsolete for warfare-
Swords are obsolete now, but you have to remember, light sabers were used a long LONG time ago.
