Because NGE was one of the biggest series of the decade, and they made tons of money off VHS/DVD sales and merchandising. They didn't make the movies until years after the series's original run wrapped up; they didn't do it until they <i>did</i> have the funding for it.
Shit, I'm lost! I used to watch this show occasionally on Cartoon Network but it kinda bored me but I just saw the Forsaken AMV by Clodo a couple days ago and just started searching more about Eva. If they did run out of money that sucks. I hate when companies run out of money or catch up to the manga making the anime f-ed up with fillers. Someone should just force Bill Gates to watch Full Metal Alchy so he'll get hooked and start donating money or something.
