No offense, but your wording comes across as completely arrogant and superior. The whole "how many of us have professional talent" load is like if I were to go on a fanfiction website and act as though I were automatically better than most the writers there because I'm finishing up my BA in English Rhetoric.
Dude, calm your ass down, I think it's obvious he didn't mean it as such.

I'm among the 'pros' I suppose? I was a film major in college and I have experience working on sets and such. I'm hoping to translate it all into a job once I finish my Japanese studies in two years.

Nope, I've got nothing to do with video editing outside of my AMV hobby, generally I keep my hobby and other things seperate.

Never took any classes that are at all relevent either (though I did consider a film minor in college it just wasn't in the cards at the time).

never took any classes, read a book or even looked at a manuel for graphic design. I started with windows movie maker 2.0, then when i decided i really liked making amvs i got adobe primiere pro 2.0 and am am still learning how to use all of its features, each amv i make is an example of what i have self taught myself.

Only instructions i have used in reguards to amvs is the guides on the org, would have never figured out how to use virtual dub mod and amvsynth without those.

Yes.

I started as an editor for a public access television in high school. It's why I had the skills to start making amvs.

Most recently I've made political ads during the 2006 election.

No. I flatly refuse to use my powers for anything less than awesome. The last thing I want to do is risk burning out on something that I'm only doing for the money.

Kalium, if you were a superhero, would you use your powers for good or for AWESOME?

I work half-time as an editor/camera operator for a local cable station while I'm finishing my grad degree in CS.

While the technical skillset for editing AMVs and editing for TV are pretty much the same, it's a completely different mental setup for me. AMVs are lots of quick edits to tell your story in the space of a song, TV is frequently "accent this event without drawing attention to the editing." If someone notices my editing in a broadcast, that usually means I've made it too obvious.

So my work editing and AMV editing are almost completely independent of each other.

It's so true! The big boss guy got all uppity because I used some unnecessary cross fades in one of our broadcasts. It's really hard sometimes to do straight hard cuts in the editing suite  (And never pick on the production assistant, I swear it's one of the most stressful jobs ever.)

I also recently landed a gig to create some stings and intro and outros for a local sports network. Wish me luck :o

Nice, some people are sure making progress :P

Me? No. It's a dirty little not-really-secret that I hate editing and would actually love to do as little of it as possible - if we take editing to be a technical process. I love the creative aspects of editing, and that's what keeps me doing it. Unless I specifically got a gig doing self-motivated, creatively-irresponsible stuff that I do with AMVs - I wouldn't do it for a career.

We can also throw in the social side to AMVing that keeps me in it. That's always a plus.

Otherwise, I'm set on an academic 'career' as a sociolinguist. I ain't touching your pro techie stuff with even my longest pointed sticks.

Why not post links to your other works? :)

I just started with AMV's and have a history of making counter-strike vids (ye I know.. lame). But thats about it, nothing professional or so.

For those who are into gamingvids or just like to see some editing in general feel free to download my latest cs-vid (released december 2005).
