They can definitely be distracting, but I wouldn't say never...

Do those work on Windows Movie Maker? The first one admits that it messes up the video, I'd rather keep the subs than that...

Like I said though, in the future I'll probably be using anime I have the DVDs for. This was kind of a special case.

stop making excuses
i've used the first one on all my early videos, yes you lose some of your footage, but it is much better than subtitles. just make sure you don't stretch it out to the original resolution, in which case it would mess with your video (alotmore)
it works -with- movie maker. or any other program. you'll need virtualdubmod (free)
and why not try the other options if you don't like this one.
no my blockbuster does not have a good selection of anime, but that was just an example. i'm sure there are lots of places you can rent anime at if you look for them.
and sutbtitles only add to the video when you add them yourself. like.. if you're saying that you need subtitles to help get your story across... well then.. i dunno.. fail.. O:

I don't mean to make excuses, I acknowledged right from the beginning that I only used the subtitles because that was all I had available to me and I didn't know of any way to get rid of them at the time. I'm not saying the video needed them, just that I tried to work with them as best I could and when used right I don't think they necessarily have to take away from an AMV. I do appreciate your advice though and certainly don't plan on making a habit of using them in the future.
