Time for me to do a little rant....
During the time I've had this problem, I've found that while Vegas is picky about what clips you can speed up and how much you can speed up when you encode in lagarith, Huffy gives you the ability to speed it up as much as you like. Problem is, when I encode in Huffy, I get that same damn problem. But now, I've found another thing, Helix YUV doesn't give me the problem (as far as I can tell), and it allows me to speed up my footage in Vegas. Only problem is that it doesn't preserve the quality. Oh yeah, and I'm a fucking retard who has no idea how the hell to install that lag codec.
Answer to my problem: A bullet to the brain.

I've had the exact same problem. It usually depends on footage. But it usually works if you encode in Huffy.During the time I've had this problem, I've found that while Vegas is picky about what clips you can speed up and how much you can speed up when you encode in lagarith, Huffy gives you the ability to speed it up as much as you like. Try not to get too down, I think the main problem here is that you have a very high spec machine and a software / OS config on it that is not right for it.
w.r.t. to lagarith, did you read the readme? Did you see that batch file? What was the error that prevented you from installing it?
I am also becomming concerned that you have other problems going on as well as this. For example if you were running 64bit windows then I would not have expected huffyuv to be available to you, but if you were running 32bit windows on a 64bit CPU I would not have expected these problems.
Could you please do the following:

Could you please do the following:
- Start -> Run
- Type: "cmd" and press enter
- In the new window type: "systeminfo > c:\myinfo.txt" and press enter
- Type: "exit" and press enter (the window will close)
- There will be a new file in C:\ called "myinfo.txt" please paste that into this forum.
