Trouble picking up a project after taking a break?

What I do is watch a few videos, find an effect I can steal, and then figure out a way to cram it into my video.

I need some breaks, because i get many times bored and must make some other things to go back to edit.

X2 I have a few animes ripped on my HD and they are doing just that. Sitting there collecting virtual dust. I see an idea and I go "OMG thats gonna be great with that anime." Then i go through the trouble of ripping and end up not even starting

That's pretty much what happened with my third, fourth, and fifth projects.

When I started my track on the Bleach MEP,I was thinking like - 'Yeah,I'm going to finish this in few weeks!..' - Yeah,right. After a month of 'editing-break-editing-break' with Vegas,I understood that there's no way I'm going to be able to finish it in time,so it turned out that I released it as a single vid in two days -.-

And the same with my latest vid - I started it at the beggining of the summer,and finished it at the end of the summer just because in the middle of the project I lost the damn motivation -.-

Right now,I have a wonderful and original Idea,but damn MEP deadlines are getting closer,and I'm progressing very slowly >.> Most likely when I'll finish all of my MEP tracks,I won't have any motivation to start my Original Idea -.-

A lot of what I read from your responses has been helpful.

Just curious about one more thing related to this. Have any of you ever begun a secondary project while taking a break from your main video? If so, do you think that it helps or distracts you from one or the other?

I usually find initial motivation comes very easily as do most people. My slumps usually come when I find the video is not turning out how I thought it would. As how it forming on the time line doesn't look and feel how did on the time line in my head. Thats usually when I give up on it.

I find to keep working on a video usually helps, not spending too much time away no more than a week.

If I find there is a particular part that just is not working out but the first minute of a 3 minute song looks great and the middle part I just cant get anything to work or lose motivation I try working on the ending and fill in the gap later.

Thats me anyways lots of people are different.
