not just DVD playing, I'm sure you've checked out xvids and mp4s, but try converting a known good xvid (or mpeg file) to a whatever codec you use to edit. I dunno, might be that... or you may have to go through your programs list and start cleaning up some extraneous codecs, drivers etc you don't need. I wouldn't go mucking about the add/ remove area without being SURE you don't need that program (ie set up a restore point or backup!). You may want to try just installing stuff like avisynth again... of coarse this often leads to even MORE havok lol.

so maybe your laser is ded or dying or
you flashed your firmware and screwed it up or
there's a power distribution problem inside your computer and the drive isn't being powered sufficiently?

trying borrowing a friends dvd drive (and drivers) and install it to see if it goes faster.

btw one of my drives does that for NTSC dvds but thats a region mismatch and just takes longer to rip (like 15 minutes) not what you are expierencing

but it's not the DVDs, because like I said, they work fine on my other computer in texas when I'm down there for the summer. Also, I don't know if this will help carify at all.. but the error I'm gettin' on the video is like this:

It's not contant, but it does happen rather frequently throughout.

lol that looks just like a dirty or damaged disc to me.

Some drives are more sensitive than others.

you may not have a scratch on the bottom it may actually be a small indent on the top which are sometimes hard to see from underneath but it's still damaged... i've done this accidently by tapping my finger on the top of a disc once. ;\

you can try using Ripit4me and see if that clears up the problem - it works with DVD decrytor.

i got a lot of distortions on my Miyazaki DVDs - due to the encryption Disney puts on them - that looked like green blocks, ripit4me cleaned up a lot of them, also cleaning the surface of the disc cleaned them up...

it's possible its a bad encode on the discs though

I'll try cleaning it and Ripit4me and see if it helps.. My Other DVDS aren't as bad as the champloo ones.. but they are still messed up.. idk, Maybe I dropped the whole case or somebody has stepped on them or some shit, idk..
