Yeah KM has some problems and the default settings are pretty strange, but I do think that it is the best freeware player for use. Zoomplayer is just shareware, but some kind of nice. I think no player is perfect, it´s about wich problems and lacks you´re willing to ignore and work aroundMosc wrote:Horrible, horrible player.Bauzi wrote:You can use VLC Player, but I suggest KMPlayer. It´s has at least the same possibilties as VLC and is much more handy. Yeah it plays nearly everything.
Seriously guys, stop recommending your crappy players that can't even get basic stuff right if the topic starter already has CCCP installed. Media Player Classic or ZoomPlayer with the proper codecs (i.e. CCCP) will play his file without a problem.

Well, I still don't see the point in introducing him to players that generally perform worse, even if they can play most files somewhat decently. I've seen their numerous problems, so what exactly are the advantages of these players over Media Player Classic or ZoomPlayer? I'm not talking about automagically changing GUI colors here.

CCCP should be good enough to play them back :3SSJ aaron wrote:If it helps, I'm using Vista.

Only other thing I know of is MPlayer, which just blows. It refused to even recognize subtitles for me. So, without installing Windows on my Mac, what other player might you know of that's better than VLC on a Mac? I'd love to have better subtitle support if I could find it.Mosc wrote:LivingFlame: You're certainly not limited to VLC on a Mac.

I'm not a Mac user nor do I have any experience in getting video playback to work on the platform, but this might help. Apparently, QuickTime is not that bad in combination with Perian and MPlayer should be able to render softsubs almost perfectly using these switches: -ass -embeddedfonts -fontconfig. Try adding -correct-pts too.
