Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
I'd never heard of the Patisserie anime before this but, correct me if I'm wrong, it appears to be the kind of shoujo-based thing the fangirls would go goofy for the same way as they did Ouran. It surprises me that there aren't any cosplayers for it yet. Anyway, one of the things I'm most impressed with this year is the variety of anime used. I hope that remains the case for AMVS5.Angelyco wrote:That just made my daymoonbunnychan wrote:people clapping during Fraggle Rock . . . getting really excited over the use of that anime in the bakery one

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
My variety is kind of monitored... I stick to animes that are more well-known, even if they may not have been seen by many people, anyone in the anime community knows of its existence to a certain degree. This way it allows a higher percentage of people to have some conduit into the visual, and most times I try to go for either extremely recognizable audio, or audio that needs no explanation. It's why I'm still using Haruhi and original FMA and those types of sources. That and I really don't watch as many series as I should JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is sort of a lesser known one among the mainstream it seems (ironically, considering it's like the longest running manga ever) but let's face it... that audio and that footage needed no explanation
I'll do my best to consider new sources as I watch more over the next few months though. I finally dipped into Spice and Wolf, and just started the second season, and also went through Busou Renkin not too long (4 months) ago ^^ I'm sincerely debating the merit of doing a Papillon/Monarch parody... but.... it's just.... TOO EASY!
Anyway, daddy needs his reaction video spinach! *taps vein and ties off* Inject it, go!
Edit: Oh yeah, and Moonbunnychan... you do realize we're all gonna have a helluva time trying to outdo the Geico Money Ads for next year's running gag, right? ^^ Anyone had any fun thoughts in that direction?

God I know...I think the Geico ones worked so well because there really are like 4 Geico commercials for every half hour of real television.
But the other thing I wanted inquire about is how the theme is supposed to be kids stuff this time. Anybody else finding that kinda restrictive? I've got a couple of things in the works but I'm kinda struggling to come up with more.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
In all honesty, this isn't against Deuce or rules in general or anything, but I've never followed the limitations, because I've never understood them. There really is no point. I followed my heart, and my sense of humor. Obviously I mis-read the barometer for Sony POS, but even that turned into an even better clip because of it (or so I'm told ^^). There's no plot to follow to make a unification, there's no continuity with which to require a restriction, and all evidence through all AMV Hells and Salads have shown that audiences get less tired and bored when there's a variation in the content styles. I have a couple that follow the criteria, but they're not at the top of my list as ones I think are very amusing. So really I've gone by the same criteria for the last two and a half years, and that is "What is truly, unequivocally funny to me in the context of anime?" The end result seemed to have worked better than I'd hoped. In two years, I don't think I've made a clip that has 'missed' so to speak.
So in all honesty, if you're feeling restricted, just get rid of those restrictions and make the audience laugh. None of them signed on to be shown only ironic kid stuff alone. It's a very good direction to start in, since off-color irony is often very humorous, but once you've milked it for everything your imagination's given you, I'm of the belief it's good to let loose from then on. That, to me, was always the true beauty of the Hells and Salads and why I joined in the first place.
...then again, if AMVS4's restriction birthed the Geico money, then perhaps you should be restricted even more so that you can turn stone into gold with three weeks to a deadline like you did this year
As for the running gag, I think there could be some potential gold in the Old Spice commercials. They may be a bit too obvious, and footage is tough to think of for it... especially a horse... but I think if we are careful it could be done well.

I'd say to see how well the Old Spice commercials are being tolerated a couple months from now. It's already kind of starting to be over parodied. (there was actually a cartoon in the back of the previously discussed AUSA's convention book doing it lol)

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
So, question. How widespread is the "I like turtles" youtube meme (which I guess I'm using you guys as a gauge).
I wanna use it for something with Squirtle but would want people to, you know, get it.

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Hmm.. if it's the one I'm thinking of, then it was shown on Tosh.0, so it's been shown to a decently wide audience. Considering the Squirtle connection, depending how you use it, it shouldn't even matter whether they know the source or not. If you use the newscaster as well then you'll have the lead-in which should allow even more of the audience who may not have seen it to be in on it.
