Hehe. This kind of cracks me up.

Many of our laws are based off the basic moral ideas in the Ten Commandments, and the Ten Commandments themselves are mostly a reflection of universal moral ideas.

For that matter, too, blindly obeying the law is just as foolish as blindly obeying a religion.

Not that I'm a Christian or especially religious person, mind you, but I'll call stupidity as I see it, irregardless of secular or religious origin.

I'm not a religous person. I'm supposed to be Catholic but I consider myself agnostic cause I've only been to church twice in my life and I wasn't raised to know about my religion or anything like that. The worst thing about not being religous is sometimes I wonder. Is there really a god? Is there really an afterlife? What if when we die, we just don't exist anymore? The possibility of that is creepy...

Creepy? Is it?

I didn't want to get involved in this, because I spent so much time on threads like these last summer but this is quick. If we don't exist after death, we won't care. Think about that. So what if we don't exist after this? If this is all there is, don't worry about not existing because you won't be here to care about it. :?

hmm....Flint could be onto something there....

Yeah, for religion, I think that people want a guiding light, y'know something to telll them what to do next. It also plays on "man's greatest strength and weakness" (there's my movie reference for today) hope. people are always hoping something better will happen and put hope(faith) into that. So when people are saying "do you have faith?" its almost like saying "do you have hope?" almost. maybe. But, people do have a fear about dying, about ceasing to exist. And that scares people. Religion gives them a comfortable feeling that they won't simply cease to exist, they instead go somewhere, be it heaven or hell (which nobody seems know where those places are located but thinks they do) Also, why are ghost stories popular? vampire stories? Even after death those people still "exist".
The bad thing about religion (which has been said already, but I can't remember by whom) is that neither side can prove it true or false. No concrete evidence exists. And topics like this always seem to get messy. Its ok to practice religion, just a slong as it doesn't consume your life. Seriously, it creeps me out when people believe that everything that happened in the Bible is real. Once again no hard evidence, but it has been proven that a certain bush in the middle east can spontaneoulsy combust. Something in the sap, I believe. And sure there probably was a a guy named Jesus. and today there are LOTS of guys named Jesus. I'm sure he did a lot to help people and that's very good. (today most people just don't care about others and that's sad) I'd better stop before I get beat up or something (heathen!) and this post gets any longer...

*in Uncle voice* One more thing! Relgion doesn't like anime. There's no way you could show FLCL to church people, they would say its wrong. Well, actually it is wrong....but in a good way

How you say?
That and the Jewish folk are hugely known for their passing down of their history through oral tradition. They take it VERY seriously. Word up.
Bingo. The oral tradition of story telling has been used since we could verbally explain an event. So how can they get somewhat blown out of proportion? Same way rumors get blown out of proportion. Dispit how serious the person may take it, the story can change little by little after several telling. Look at a lot of the old literature, such as the Arthurian tales. Some say it went like this...others say it went like that.

Now I'm not gonna go and say all the stories of Jesus are false, but I can say that you can have a benifeit of a doubt that they may have been stretched a little out of proportion after several generations.

Also about the bible and witches....

Witches were the excuse for anything that couldn't be explained or identified as the work of God, or a god. Now back in the time of the Greeks, witches were considered Goddesses, in fact Cerce (sp?) a goddess, was described as a witch.

If your bible mentions witches, then it is probably the King James version. King James literally wrote the book on witch trials. In fact he was obsessed with the supernatural, and until around the midieval times (and especially during King James' rule), witches, as servants of the devil, weren't that much of a big deal.

As for that rediculace book, well until witches and demons were casted out as silly superstition, that book was used to identify people as witches.....who could of been anyone, witch or not, since the methodes were so outragious. The term witch pricker came from the man would strip a suspected nude, and with a needle, 'prick' several different parts of the body.

What they looked for was the person to twitch in reaction to the place pricked which would be identify as the place were Satan left his ceal (sp?), or mark, which he did after the 'witch to be' had supposed intercourse. The thing is, imaging all the several sensitive areas on the body they must of pricked, it's more than likely that they'd eventually hit a spot that would make anyone flinch.

Its a shame people died because this nonsense....

Well thats enough of my late night ramblings. Right now I'm taking the 7 minutes of your life you just wasted reading this and sacrificing to my all and power god of velcro.

Ahem. *points to avatar*

Funny story: I'm on the leadership team for a christian group on my campus. Four of us like the board game Risk, so we hung out at my place one night. And after playing a game, we decided to watch a movie: "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas."

The funny thing is, right after the movie ended I turned on Cartoon Network to catch the last ep of FLCL. For some reason everyone thought it was more messed up than "Fear and Loathing"...

Homosexuality has been brought up twice as a "bad" thing, so most of you can probably guess my opinion towards christianity.

Unfortunately, most (NOT all) of the people who preach to you about how great being a christian is are people who ignore the bible themselves.

Basically, I've found you have to find your own reasons for questions like "why the fuck am I here?" and "why does here suck?" and "was I put here by something bigger than me?" yourself. Because anyone who claims they know the answers as true facts is full of shit.

And you can say that straight to their face. They haven't been dead and came back, so they don't fucking know.
If nothing else, harsh noises get your attention.

wow...I'll come back and read through and contribute to this later...but I'll place this one tidbit.

All I can prove for CERTAIN is what I have in my mind through what I have personally (assuming I exist in the first place ^.^)

Before my earliest memory, there was nothing. I did not exist...in a sense I was dead from the beginning of time until 1978.

There was nothing, it was oblivion....that is all anyone has to go by for real. Some people claim to see or hear things, or remember things they discover along the road of existence. But we all share a few things in common.

This earth was here before we were born, and it'll most likely be here after we die.

I expect death is very much like what I have already been through...before I was born.

Now for some sleep...

Ok religions I hate

1.Wicca-Trendy made up religion stupid people that think somehow they are better christians believe in this crap.

2.Muslims--Fuck this religion and it's followers. I think we should line them up and shoot them all and oh yeah a big fuck you to allah.

3Catholic christians--Ditto the muslims

4.Hindu-Yeah fuck this shit too.

Regular christians I'm not going to pick on they never get in my way and although I think that their whole belief system is retarded and that they are sheep not questioning anything just having faith yuck.

Me I won't totally believe in a god until he comes down and says hey I am god. I am agnostic deist. I'm not sure if God exists but if he does he dosen't care in anyway good or bad what we do.

If I had to beleive in gods the norse ones would be my first choice. The ones from Oh my goddess that is.

So in conclusion fuck religion. If you beleive in one you are sheep and fuck your faith.
