I'm just curious, did anyone here order a CD from this band? I did nearly a month ago and still haven't heard anything from them. I know they're in Sweden, which is quite a distance from the midwestern U.S., but still...

I'm going to try to e-mail them now.

Well the Genesis had a more powerful CPU, but it had a more limited video processor in many respects. It topped the SNES on resolution (The SNES could go higher than the Genesis, but only by turning off all the fancy 2d acceleration features, really only good for title screens), but the SNES had a superior color gamut and had more 2D acceleration features like rotation. If you knew what you were doing you could drastically improve the number of onscreen colors of the Genesis, but it gets complicated once you add sprites and you still can't match the color capabilities of the SNES. As far as audio is concerned, the SNES used samples for all of it's music so if you have good samples it sounds good, but some games used cruddy samples to save space. The Genesis used FM synthesis, some people like it others don't.

As far as games are concerned, Sonic is way cooler than Mario any day and there were plenty of great titles for the system though you won't find many Japanese titles for it as it wasn't very popular over there.

The Sega Master system hardware was superior to the NES hardware in all ways but sound. The NES had a slightly superior sound chip. It could produce several different wave types, like sawtooth whereas the SMS could only produce square waves. Then again the Japanese SMS had an FM chip which was far superior to the NES audio chip.

FM Synth owns. I believe I alreay admitted to Sega's hardware superiority...and Sonic does own Mario.

But Sega's polishing the brass on the Titanic man, it's all going down. They pioneered and had the best in many areas. Remember the Sega Nomad? We all know Game Gear. The Dreamcast had the little Chao minigame you could store in the memory pack (but this was a PS idea that Sega just released in the US first). Sega had the stuff, but the potential wasn't there, that's why they ended up just making games, and not systems in the end.

Ah, never mind. I just got it in the mail 2 days ago. Haven't listened to it yet though - it's about 5th in line before it finds its way into my CD player.

FF3 (FF6 for all you psx fans) had the best video game music I think I have ever heard, other than Final Fantasy Legend 3 for the Game Boy. You all may disagree, but that stuff was fucking AWSOME. I don't have too many psx games, but the ones I do have have bland soundtracks that just fade into the backround and are at best tolerable.
Oh, and yes I said a Game Boy game had great music. Legend 3's music was so good that I recorded some of it to my comp and it turned out pretty well. If you ever get the chance and happen to have any kind of Game Boy, buy it. It is better than most console RPGs anyday. Tamagochi (for the Game Boy) had some pretty good tunes as well, and I recorded one of them too.

On another note, even though the Game Gear had color, it didn't matter cuz the graphics SUCKED. The Game Boy's dot matrix made for much clearer, albeit pixelated, graphics. Not to mention the fact that Game Gear games sucked ass. I'm not a Sega-hating Nintendo fanboy, I was just SO PISSED OFF at having wasted all that money on a shitty system with games that were just as shitty. THEY MADE SONIC CRY!

The GameGear was the first handheld system with a 16-bit display, and the graphics were far from awful for it's generation. The only problem with it was the backlighting that blinded you in the dark, and made it untolerable in the light.

As for FF3 (which is actually FF6 in Japan, not just on the PS), I bought the soundtrack, quite compulsively 2 years ago at the Sakura Con. It's good for listening to when you're in the mood to hear a song that has only 2 movements. Sadly though, I prefer the FF7 OST over it because of the strongly variant song composition...and well, the Cosmo Canyon theme owns my soul.

Game Gear's graphics look like fuzzy blobs of color with extremely poor definition/resolution. It doesn't matter if it was first, it still sucked, even for it's generation, and it sucked batteries too. I hate that piece of shit... >:|

But we aren't IN Japan, are we? I found FF"6"s music to be quite varied, the Veldt was my favorite :D
But you are right about the Cosmo Canyon jamz. They awsome.

doesn't matter if we're in Japan or not. FF3 is FF6. Rockman is Megaman (which makes more sense - Rock, Roll, Rush, Bass, Treble...why Mega?). Elf Princess Rane is Fairy Princess Ren. FF3 is a completely different game. Just because it's released in America that way doesn't mean it's the right way.

Just because the games sucked, does not mean the system itself wasn't good. I don't ever remember stating that it had the best library.
