Loving Hate

Post by Lupin the Arn » Sun Oct 10, 2004 8:42 am

A lot of interesting picks and reasons. I want to say first that I agree with almost every one of them. Also, I'd like to get back to the thought of why we love to hate them. Villains are trying to impede and or kill our beloved heroes. We hate them naturally, but why do we love them. Evil is fun!

Without them we would have no action and no conflict. Without Evil no one would know the difference between right and wrong. (And no one would find joy in the grey areas of heroic villains and dark heroes.)

Ok said my peace. My picks...

Dio from Last Exile. In the early episodes, he is deliciously deviant and spooky. However, later he starts to get annoying (especially his english dub.) But he comes back a little when he flips out when his sister shows up and he thinks she's going to kill him. (Cool ass scene.) Overall, you end up loving and hating the character.

Saito from both Samurai X and Rouruni Kenshin. No matter what side he is working on, his is working for his own sense of justice. Yet, he still just wants to kill Kenshin. There is a fantastic duality between them. They are alike and different. Good, Bad, who cares he's just Bad Ass.

Puni Puni Poemi. The whole thing. Its funny and I do enjoy it, but you have to watch it several times to catch all the dialogue (dub or sub) because she talks at hyper speed both ways. After about a dozen times with this one you'll be hoping for an embelism so the pain will stop.

There are probably a bunch more but I just got home from work and my brain is fried noodle paste right now.
I am the mostly Togusa Human.

Another one I just thaught of is Annie from Cowboy Bebop

Reason: On Ballad of Fallen Angels (session 5) Spike calls her Anastasia and she gets all upset and says there are only two people who can call her that. My reason is this: what was the point of that whole scene when it doesn't explain who the two people are and why only they can call her Anastasia. The creators had me trying to figure out that the whole series but no explination, no short clip, no nothing and it makes me mad. And my other reason is because she died in the end, which really I wouldn't have cared if she died or not, but she died without us knowing what the whole deal was with her name!!!
COWBOY BEBOP
The work. Which will become a genre in itself, will be called...

Inuyasha because it's so fun to see hardcore Inu fans go nuts when i explain to them, in detail, why the show is bad.

the Aunt from GRave of the Fireflies

Jesse from Pokemon - if he's gay, then i don't like him. if he's straight, then the Y chromosone in me tells me to beat the hell out of him

Asuka - headstrongness is my least preferred method for covering up your own infidelity. grow the hell up

Lain's sister from Serial Experiments Lain - I don't know her name, but she annoys the hell out of me

To be fair, that's technically less a problem with the character herself, more a problem with the writers who apparently felt it fitting to start to hint at her background and then fail to deliver. She was a decent character, she just got screwed over when the writers couldn't figure out a good way to use her in the main story...as such, she became a red herring of sorts. Then again, Bebop doesn't seem to be the best with long-term story anyways, IMO (...sure, the Spike vs Vicious arc was something, but even the past of that was only briefly touched on...and just enough so that the audience knew they
a) Had a past together
b) Were enemies
and
c) What Julia's connection in all of it was...)

Outside of that and the recurrence of Faye's past, Bebop was primarily a filler show...

Yeah I agree on all those. I can't believe I forgot about the Aunt from Grave of the Fireflies though, I hated her. Inu-Yasha is annoying too. But Jesse? Jesse IS a girl silly, I think you ment James.

...OK...you're bashing Kagome, and yet...the image you linked to is in favor of her? ... By chance, have you been diagnosed with DID or what?
