Tasteful FX in AMVs

I don't blame Euphoria, I blame AE.

Koop made Euphoria with a program slightly less capable than premiere, doing most of the masking effects by hand in MS paint. He put a shitload of effort into everything.

AE allows creators to do similar things, but majorly dumbs down the process. Many sub-par AE videos attempt to achieve effects along the lines of Euphoria's, but half ass them using every shortcut the program offers. As such, you run into a lot of shitty clones. If AE hadn't become popularized immediately after Euphoria's release (which was merely coincidental), then you wouldn't have nearly as many bad effects videos because doing the types of effects Koop pulled off would still be hard as hell and require an actual brain in your skull. If someone's attempting to produce a Euphoria clone for the sake of popularity, then chances are they aren't willing to put 1/3 of the effort koop did into their peice.

It kind of hurts me to say this, but I think you guys are giving people way to much credit.

It wasn't Koop's fault, nor was it AE's fault. Behind all those shitty videos are people who made them, who LIKE them, and who think they are AWESOME. AE doesn't create terrible effect clones. People with god awful fucking taste do.

You can't learn taste. If you genuinly think that those awful tacky effects look great, then thats it. You like it.

Thats why we have bad videos.

In fairness, I don't think there's such a generalizable category as tasteful effects. Barn doors can be tasteful. Piano keys can be tasteful. It's the context of their use, not the effects themselves.
