They changed the band name, but it was stupid and I will not comply. "Rhapsody of Fire" was the worst idea since the invention of helmets.

Beethoven's Symphonies 3, 5 and especially 9. Almost the entire Lord of the Rings sound track. La Bocherini La Musica Notturna Delle Strade Di Madrid, which the song that appears at the end of Master and Commander as well as much of the rest of the Master and Commander sound track. The entire Gladiator sound track perticularly THe Battle and Elysium-Honour Him-Now we are free. Two of my personal classical favourites are the Willam Tell and 1812 overutres. One song to me that stands slightly above the rest the 1977 redition by the Red Army Choir of the Soviet National Anthem.

If you are looking for something a little more rockish David Bowie's Life on Mars is pretty dramatic and Guns and Roses's Version of Knockin' on Heaven's Door orgionally by Bob Dylan.

ok bear with me when I suggest...Vomitron remixing Contra.

I know what you're probably thinking "video game music isn't epic. Especially from the 8-bit era," but this music documents the lives of 2 individuals who have to charge through the jungle shooting everything and anything that moves! And it's not like you can recover from a bullet wound either! Well, more than 3 times at least. These men risked their lives to stop the alien from doing that thing. Hell, I don't know, but it's awesome.

But seriously down to the song. It gears up fast, remixiing all of the tracks from the video game so that they have plenty of electric guitars and drums. Vomitron offers his music free on his My-Space or something, I forget, but I remember it being 100% legitimately legal, and santioned by Vomitron. It's easy to find.

I thought the song they closed the third Matrix film with was epic. It didn't make up for the sloppy writing, but I thought it was badass:
