Why are people allowed to vote for their own videos?

It's the same people. They always review their own meps. They aren't trying to hide it. Just check the profiles of the people leaving those ops and you'll find more of the same thing. MEPs with no ops except from the people who participated and the people who flamed them (for opping their own MEP). It's not against the rules, so if you don't like it just avoid those videos. Don't review them with low scores. That just encourages more of the participants to review the video in order to counter your op. You make things worse. Not to mention flaming *is* against the rules. Padding your own score isn't.ced1106 wrote:And here's another one.
Try some of the older MEPs. Opping your own video wasn't common until a year or two ago (people used to make fake accounts for that sort of thing, they didn't do it openly). And don't go by the op average, go by whether or not they have ops from people who didn't participate. Even if the score is average at best, just the fact that people who didn't participate liked it enough to review means random viewers liked it. You might like it, too.
Or you can ignore the ops and just go by the vid description or the star score. Star scores are pretty good judges if they have a lot of stars. You can sort by star in the super search if you donate.

How exactly did you think most of the top 10% list was populated? People that are the creator(s) and friends of the creator(s) leave very generous ops, then when other people see the rave reviews they all agree that the emperor's clothes kick ass.

Try sorting by "FAN" instead of editor (bottom left menu under 'member'). That cuts out most of the backscratching ops. Then you just have to deal with the fake accounts. ;p

Theoretically that would be worse. How the hell are important things like "video quality" and "effort" going to be judged by someone that doesn't know jack shit about how much time and effort it took to get things to look like they did. I'd say fan ops are worse in many respects.Arigatomina wrote:Try sorting by "FAN" instead of editor (bottom left menu under 'member'). That cuts out most of the backscratching ops. But still, maybe that's purest way to OP videos. You see past all the technical stuff and just judge the AMV without all that. Hell if they really liked it THAT much, isn't that point of the site? Give people videos they'll love.BasharOfTheAges wrote:Theoretically that would be worse. Overall and reviewable are all really that matter in the top 10. Sorting by fan makes the list closer to the star lists since we have more fans than we do editors.BasharOfTheAges wrote:I'd say fan ops are worse in many respects.
If you wanted to sort by the individual tech categories, yeah, I'd stick with editor. But those include the 'all 10' ops that led to the creation of this thread. I was giving a way to avoid videos with ops like that since he was looking for amvs based entirely on the op scores.
I still say donating a few bucks and sticking with the supersearch+sortbystars is the way to go.
