It is 2 AM. Normally I would be outside running around like a jackass. But no, this is the eve of my Chemistry exam. Actually I was studying. And then, my roommate called me over to his computer to look at your replies. I think I broke my assbone laughing. I have laughed my ass off. In fact I am in the process of sending a campus wide e-mail in request for a new ass. Props to Oren for a most impressive response that I believe best sums up my feelings on that.
I'm sure you are of course Clara that in 1963 when Tetsuwan Atomu debuted from Mushi Studios founded by the late Osamu Tezuka, father of Japanese animation and "God of Anime", that he made no bomnes about his influence from Disney, and his desire to emulate the work that Disney produced, while making some changes. Compare Tetsuwan or Leo or Kennichi to any Disney character and you are bound to see a resemblance. They stem from the same place. Animations from Japan were born from that which emerged in the United States. If you want to continue to hold your false believe, I have no problem with that....well actually I do...but I have a seemingly infinite greater knowledge on the history of this particular topic, and I am not inferring in ANY way that this makes me a better person, in fact it simply means that I've wasted more of my life than you have. But what it does do is give me a helluva lot of ammo to bat down many sweeping generalizations, such as "anime are not cartoons".
So I'll ask again. Why are they different?
Because it is drawn differently? Because it is inferior in cel-count and polish? Because the voice-acting isn't usually up to par with the Japanese counterpart? Because it is "deeper"? If those are your reasons they're purely cosmetic surface, and actually...opinion, nothing more.
Someone mentioned it before. You can't battle with opinions or those who won't accept fact.
Which is why I'm having so much fun with this
That is by far one of the funnier things I have ever read in my lifetime. I have posted it on my dorm room door and will continue to laugh all subsequent asses I may receive clear off, every morning when I see it.because a Cartoon is not just something that is Animated and Funny!
Yes I would like you to. I'm begging you to, just so that I can point out how incorrect they will be. Refusal to do so (for the 19th page in a row or so it seems) just seems to further incriminate you.If you've actually watched both Anime and Cartoons, you know that they are different. It's obvious. I suppose you would like me to point out with facts and edvidince that the sky is blue too, huh?

I'm continually peeved that there is no post edit option. Here are mistakes I made in my post.
*awareI'm sure you are of course* Clara
In this case "Animations" would be acceptable as plural, but is correct only as singular.Animations from Japan were born from that which emerged in the United States.

Just pointing out that Anime is the french word for animation so Smurfs is an anime! Alot of the older japanese cartoons for kids look very similiar to the stuff Hana Barbara was making. And if you pay attention to the market in Japan not all the anime have the stereotypical anime character.

Yes that's correct, as Frederick Schodt mentioned in his 1983 compilation of manga history, 'Manga Manga Manga! The World of Japanese Comics' the word anime is in fact derived from the French word for an animated work.
How true. Simply look at One Piece. Every once in a while there are characters who are distinctly western-style in features. And if you pay attention to the market in Japan not all the anime have the stereotypical anime character.

Thank you for certifying that you have no proof, and it is only your vapid opinion.Anime and Cartoons are different because they are not the same. You may be able to find some similarities, but they definitely are not the same thing, which makes them different.
Where's all that "sky-blue" evidence that a child could see?
