I compare it to the same level of concentration as writing an exam - except it's like writing an exam that's a couple dozen hours long. Considering that my job/school already require a lot of concentration to begin with, the tunnel-vision-editing-mode just makes me want to pass out and never touch Premiere again by the time I'm done. I have very limited creative/mental energy, and editing consumes a lot of it when I do it. So I definitely admire people who can actually keep that level of commitment to editing (or other creative things) over and over - I would honestly crash and go insane if I edited even 1/10th as much as you (assuming I haven't already :uhoh: )
Somehow, if I spend a day editing-like-a-mofo, at the end of it I have more energy and I'm restless and I want to edit more, but I have other things I need to do. I feel like a little kid who goes on a ride and afterwards is like "Again! Again!" except that the mom is all "No, you have to go grocery shopping, then do the laundry, feed and water your Adam, then go to bed because you need to get up early for work, you have to pay the rent. :nono: "
"awwww..... :( "

Then again, I also don't have a job that requires much of my mental energies, so they all just get saved up for editing. If I had job/school like yours, I imagine it would be a completely different story.

I don't have a job at all and yet I find it tiresome to sit in a chair and edit... or just sit in a chair in general even to just surf the web... O.o

When I start editing, I often find myself losing track of time and when I look at the clock its something like 6 a.m. @.@

I edit when I feel very strongly about either my source video or track, or both. Unfortunately, some of my ardor is inevitably lost during the time it takes me to prep my footage for editing. Anyway, yea, it's usually a desire to take something I experienced while, say, watching Claymore, and attempting to do it justice in a music video. So for me it's more of a cathartic experience.

Another component is the competition facet. When I've got a deadline looming for Otakon, it really gets me focused and determined to "be the very best, like no one ever was!" When I have no deadline, my projects tend to linger for a long time :/

I'm not any kind of a good editor (yet, hope), but editing is such great fun. I'm strongly involved in all the music thing, and one day I discovered, no idea how and why, amv.com.pl. That was the day I started watching anime, reading manga, getting some knowledge about Japan, but above this my major thought was "goood, if I won't end up editing such awesome things, I'll die". And till now it's so awesome regardless of tones of unfinished projects.

I edit because I might feel very strongly about an anime or song. Every time I see an AMV prefaced by, "I was bored, so...," I just wince. I could never edit an AMV if I were bored. I can only edit if I'm excited.

I only tend to edit when I want to convey a certain idea, usually when I feel a personal reference with that idea. Once that comes into play I get really into it and pretty excited about when I can sit down and add more to my edit

Some things just have to be done, and nobody's going to do them but me.
That and I've made so many great friends through this community.

I already editing AMV since 2007. I'm actually doing it because I'm studying Audio Visual Animation Education 3rd year.
Since Anime Music Video is very nice to create a video item with anime together with Animation graphics I've made.
Since I feel also a bit that something has been made by me and using Anime sources together will be a power-full video product.
