You also don't really need gigabit Ethernet, when it's plausible, and cheaper, to stripe network devices.

$300 for a switch is expensive, when you can get a decent 10/100 Fast Ethernet switch for $40-60, and also when decent 80-ish gig hard drives cost half that these days.
