And they can be used to solve large systems of equations that has like 4 variables and 4 rows of the equation.
Unless we're talking at least 6 variables, I'll solve everything manually with linear equations. Six or more, and then I'll mess with computational tools and matricies. But then again, when in my regular life (except an engineering career) will I ever have to solve for more than 5 variables at a time?

matrices simplify:
cross products (important in calculating torque and flux), areas/volume defined by two/three vectors, linear transformations with vectors (including rotation-dilations, shears, projections, reflections), expressing vectors in changing coordinate systems, defining a orthonormal bases (which you need to do to get a Cartesian coordinate system), least squares regression, and dynamical systems

And long-term probability with UDU^(-1) stuff, although I hated that because it took so damn long.

Matrices? Hmmm... I did that in Data Management. Yes, my school has 3 seperate grade 12 math classes. How cruel...

I wish I had Calculus again! Definitely beats Physics anyday. Calculus was complicated, but by the end of the day, I understood it. It's been a month and I still don't know what I'm doing in Physics. -_-

And to think, I have a class called Discrete Geometry next semester. Which is supposed to be a step up from the Calculus class. 0_0

BAH! You foolish mortal humans! I am your god! Worship my math 1337ness! Muahahaha!
 I'm just joking.... But I am great at math.... P|-|34R /\/\3! Someone? :( Please fear me...?
Haha I'm so lucky; I don't have any math classes senior year  muahaha. I'll have done all the math that my high school offers! And yes, that is including AP calc and AP statistics. Muahaha. I am your superior! 8)

Lol, one of Trythil's away messages is something like: "discrete math blew my head up :/"

Anyway, I was always good at math and physics but I couldn't see myself doing it for a career. :?
