i wish i could edit but oh well, I prefer the Japanese language, not sure why....no matter how good the dub, i wont like it, although i will be able to appreciate it (at the very least)

Perfect sub or dub?

Post by Clara Yuri Asaki » Sat Aug 17, 2002 8:51 pm

Between a perfect sub or a perfect dub, I would just learn Japanese and watch the perfect sub without the subs! That would be alot cooler, most of the time, at least. :D

Yeah, it is kinda true that the dubs present a sense of comedy a little better than subs. Excel Saga's very hilarious in Japanese, but it gets a bit funnier in English. After seeing the dubbed Metal Angel Marie, I really wonder if the subbed My Dear Marie will be as funny. I haven't seen Goldenboy yet, but I'm sure that a good comparision of comedy between subs and dubs can be made from it.

While we're talking about subs and dubs, lets add some talk about game translations along with the anime translations, if you don't mind. Like the dubbing for Devil May Cry for Playstation 2. Or the dubbing for Final Fantasy X. Or that horrible excuse for dubbing from Bloody Roar 3. The english voice of Dante from Devil May Cry was pretty cool, but Trish's dubber needs to learn how to scream a lot better. I can't believe that Squaresoft of USA allowed this masterpiece Final Fantasy X to be released in America with it's mostly less-than-half-of-good-and-empty-heartless voice acting! The main char's name (Tidus), is pronounced "Tee-Dus", not "Tie-Dus", by the way. I don't even wanna talk about Bloody Roar 3's dubbing, just listen to Xion. While Capcom VS SNK 2's language is all Japanese, you get to hear Japanese people attempt to talk american. Listen to chars like Guile, Cammy, and Balrog, all the voice actors are Japanese, but they're talking american, and it sounds a bit weird of course. Oh yeah, this is an anime forum.... I'll stop talking now... (Well, Devil May Cry and Capcom VS SNK 2 are two really cool anime-stlye games.)

What about Hentai translations? I've seen all the Cool Devices, (execpt Ep 9) but they were all subbed. Really accurate voices with what's going on, of course. You wonder if they did more than just voice acting to get the audio so accurate. But anyways. I haven't seen any dubbed Hentai, so I'm just wondering.

Or what about music translations? Some Japanese songs get redone in English too. (But we all know this already, of course, right?) They get redone really well actually. Perfect Blue's english remake of Ai no Tenshi, Angel of Love, almost sounded no different. Perfect translation is what I mean. The english opening for Magic Knight Rayearth has a nice, cute sounding girl still, so that's cool. The lyrics don't really change that much either. So that's even cooler. Well, what do you all think?

Well, anyways, keep those replies about anime, game, hentai, music, whatever translations coming! :)

Onana! :D

What the hell are you smoking?? the skill doesnt come in WHAT they are saying...they are TOLD what to say, its the emotion put into it, and often times obvious hard work. You can see talent in a seiyuu when they can successfully provide the voices for adult men/women, children, and old men. remember successfully is the key word

that would be the songwriters fault...and if whoever sings it is the songwriter, that account for their writing skills, not for their singing

I responded precisely to what you said, if you meant otherwise, you simply incorrectly expressed yourself...either take a logical stand point or just accept the fact that even though one can't understand what a seiyuu says without subtitles, they still have the ability to gauge their talent as a voice actor/actress

so there :P
