Has it been a good year for Metal?

I'd say it's been a good year for metal, but altogether disappointing. I haven't seen or heard of anything particularly new or interesting coming from the metal community. A couple of years ago, you had some great advances that proved to their critics that they were worthy of the title "metal," but now, it all looks like a general emersion of past material with a quirk or two of something that may be new to the industry but not new entirely to it's whole genre.
For example, the items listed in this link isn't all that surprising or complex. I would say, the new metal can take some heat, but that's to be expected with the new formula's put into place by more experienced movers and shakers.

It's Jari Maenpaa's (the guy who did vocals/guitar in Ensiferum and recently left them) new band. Much better than 'Iron', IMO. So if you haven't heard it yet, make some time to do so, you won't be disappointed.
